LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Patty Jenkins' 'Wonder Woman' holds the distinction of being the first DCEU movie that received a lot of love from the critics as well as the audiences. The 2017 movie turned out to be a gigantic hit and earned over $822 million globally and the American Film Institute (AFI) named it as one of the Top 10 films of that year. However, its sequel 'Wonder Woman 1984' couldn't replicate that level of success and in recent times, the merger of Warner Bros and Discovery+ has taught us that they don't take much time to scrap projects which might not give them results. The latest one to join the bandwagon seems to be 'Wonder Woman'.

In one of the most shocking news coming out from the entertainment industry, reports suggest that Patty Jenkins' 'Wonder Woman' universe is apparently "over."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the third and last movie in the 'Wonder Woman' saga is not moving forward and is considered to be dead as it didn't fit in with the studios' plans for the future of the DC Universe. The report also suggests that it was James Gunn, Peter Safran, as well as WB Pictures co-chairs and co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Andy, who broke the news to the acclaimed filmmaker.

The news comes a day after Gal Gadot posted to her social media accounts on the anniversary of her casting as Wonder Woman and noted that she can't wait to don the iconic dress again in the third movie of the franchise. She wrote, "On this day, a few years ago, was the first announcement that I was going to play Wonder Woman. I've been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I'm grateful for YOU. The fans. The most amazing, warm, loving fans in the world. I'm still pinching myself to see if I will wake up. Can't wait to share her next chapter with you."

Sources indicate that Gadot was going to get a salary of more than $20 million while Jenkins was supposed to earn $12 million. These figures are not that big and won't be making much of a difference to Warner Bros. Discovery+.

The talks of having a third 'Wonder Woman' started happening right after the release of the second movie and even though 'Wonder Woman 1984' earned mixed reviews, a third movie was going to happen and it was supposed to end Gadot's tenure as the Amazonian princess. However, it seems no plans for 'Wonder Woman' have currently been revealed and it's a shame that people like Jenkins might not be seen in the DC Universe ever again. But Gadot's recent post seemed to be giving an indication that her tenure as the superhero is not over and viewers can expect her to wear the costume again while fighting the baddies.

We would just have to wait and see what lies ahead for 'Wonder Woman'.
