LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Yellowstone’ is one of the biggest shows in the world right now and is currently in the middle of its fifth season. The show went on a hiatus after airing the eighth episode of the fifth edition on January 1 and is scheduled to return in the Summer of 2023. However, a shocking new report has suggested that the series might be cutting its tie with the show’s lead star Kevin Costner and coming to an end.

The series began in 2018 and became a runaway success for Paramount. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the show primarily focuses on John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and the other members of the Dutton Family trying to do anything and everything to keep their ranch safe from intruders. The series has garnered positive reviews from critics as well as audiences throughout its five-season run and continues to be one of the most-watched TV shows of all time. However, it seems that Sheridan wants to expand the universe with another superstar in sight.

Is Paramount planning to end 'Yellowstone'?

The report published by Deadline indicates that Paramount Global and Paramount Network are planning to end the aforementioned series “in its current form”. But that doesn’t mean that the Dutton saga will end with the conclusion of ‘Yellowstone’ because the production giant is planning to continue the Dutton saga with Matthew McConaughey in talks to star.

Paramount didn’t waste any time in responding to the report and said that it has “no news to report.” A spokesperson from the production house noted that Costner continues to be an integral part of the ‘Yellowstone’ universe and they hope that that’s the case “for a long time to come.” The statement also noted that they would love to have Matthew McConaughey in the ‘Yellowstone’ universe as well.

“We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of ‘Yellowstone’ and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner,” the statement read.

Is Kevin Costner paving the way for Matthew McConaughey?

The main cause of the problem is Costner’s busy filming schedule. For the uninitiated, the ‘Dances with the Wolves’ star is currently busy working on his passion project titled ‘Horizon’, a western drama that Costner will be directing and starring in. The report suggests that the star only wanted to spend a week shooting for the second part of the fifth season and was the source of frustration for the show’s creator. However, it seems Paramount has reportedly declined the star’s proposal and decided to move in a different direction.

The publication also reported that McConaughey is currently in negotiations to star in the new project.

Although nothing has been confirmed, the next set of episodes will surely tell us if this is true or not. If Paramount is planning to move away from Costner and ‘Yellowstone’, then it might be ending the show in the most spectacular fashion. Let’s see if this report turns out to be true or not.

The series currently holds a rating of 83% on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.

‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 will return with new episodes in the Summer of 2023.
