Is Wonyoung manipulative? Idol strategizing in latest IVE game show has fans amused
SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: It should not be surprising anymore if haters scrutinize every movement of a K-pop idol. Fans know that if their faves are getting hate, it is because they are popular and don't pay attention to such trolls. However, IVE's Wonyoung has gone viral for allegedly being manipulative with even non-fans calling out the haters for reaching.
Wonyoung has been getting hate for the most absurd reasons ever since she debuted in IVE. From being called lazy for not messing up her hair to eating a strawberry with two hands and making doe eyes while drinking from a bottle, haters have been bashing her. Antis nitpick her reactions as she has the innocent doll face like Blackpink's Jennie and influencer FreeZia that annoy those who don't like them. Well, Wonyoung is now in the spotlight for simply strategizing during a game show.
Haters call Wonyoung manipulative for switching teams
Fans were first excited when it was announced that IVE would be the first guest in the K-pop version of the popular game show '1 Night 2 Days'. The episode released on September 19 for 'IVE x 1N2D' shows the girls splitting into teams and doing two different activities. With Wonyoung being strategic and partnering up with Liz to get the team she wanted, a user made a post on Nate, a Korean gossip chat forum and claimed Wonyoung was being manipulative towards Liz and the staff.
IVE was divided into two teams by selecting a paddle. Those who got the cable car paddle would get to ride the cable car. Those who got the canoe paddle would have to ride a canoe. Wonyoung got the canoe paddle but looked unhappy and even said it aloud. However, member Liz who was on the cable car team said that she actually wanted to go on the canoe. The staff agreed that they could trade but Yujin shared that all of them could pick again since the teams were the same as the previous episode and would be boring for viewers. Wonyoung then, got the cable car paddle like she wanted.
OP (original poster) claimed that Wonyoung had manipulated her group and the staff to change teams. OP said, "She was staring how the staff was shuffling and picked out the paddle that she wanted right away...And when she picked it, she even started talking about how 'I'm trusting my fate' and what not.."
'They're so pressed'
Even non fans felt OP's claim was too far-fetched and left comments like, "But it's not like she's whining or forcing Liz to swap it, she just seems to want to control the situation, so to call her manipulative is a bit..." Another Knetz told OP, "You're hiding your inferiority complex too much in this post." One observed, "Rather than manipulative, she just takes care of what's most beneficial to her."
One fan wrote, "Recently many fans of other GGs are ganging up on Wonyoung and Ive so hard. They are so pressed cuz IVE is so big right now." Another said, "They criticize her for breathing, now I know how popular she is in Korea." One fan tweeted, "I swear I just saw a post wonyoung being stiff in variety shows few days ago and when she acts freely now she being manipulative the hell you wanna her act like pick a side." Another pointed out, "This article is so funny cause liz herself told that she wants to try canoeing and wonyoung took that opportunity to ask if you could switch , probably she isn't comfortable or scared water activities, , if she was being manipulative then she would have tried to stop the PD."
