Fans of 'Wonka' can breathe a little easier. The sequel is still happening, despite recent comments suggesting the film had been delayed indefinitely. Simon Farnaby, who co-wrote and appeared in the 2023 film, has now clarified his earlier remarks. He said 'Wonka 2' was always part of the plan and confirmed that the team is still working on the project.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Warner Bros. has backed up Farnaby's clarification. The studio said reports about a delay were “entirely false” and confirmed that the creative team is working on the next chapter. Farnaby had previously told Variety that the sequel faced delays linked to Timothée Chalamet's schedule. He said Chalamet wants to make the film but has been unsure about his timing and next project.

Farnaby later addressed the confusion directly. He said his comments had been taken out of context and confirmed that he and director Paul King have written a script for the sequel. He added that Warner Bros. remains committed to the project and that Chalamet still wants to return as Willy Wonka. The main challenge now is working around schedules and giving the team enough time to make the film.

Chalamet has had a packed schedule since 'Wonka'. He starred in 'Dune: Part Two', 'A Complete Unknown' and 'Marty Supreme'. He earned Oscar nominations for the latter two films. He will next appear in 'Dune: Part Three', which arrives December 18. He will voice the lead character in the animated film 'Not Alone', scheduled for April 16, 2027.

The first 'Wonka' became a major box office success. The Timothee Chalamet starrer earned more than $630 million worldwide against a reported $125 million budget. For now, 'Wonka 2' does not have a confirmed release date. The sequel is still going through the baseline stages, with its cast and production schedule still being worked out.
