They decide to join forces and use their unique skills and determination to track down the killer.
'Women in Blue' draws from the real-life experiences of Mexico’s first female officers
In 'Women in Blue', Ximena Sariñana, Bárbara Mori, Natalia Téllez, and Amorita Rasgado take on the roles of groundbreaking women who join Mexico’s pioneering all-female police force.
The 10-episode series 'Women in Blue' is a collaborative creation of Fernando Rovzar, who serves as co-creator, co-writer, and co-director.
Rovzar's journey to bringing this series to life began when he stumbled upon a newspaper article that detailed the remarkable and untold story of Mexico’s first all-female police force.
Set in the early 1970s and inspired by true events, 'Women in Blue' tells the story of Mexico’s pioneering all-female police force who embark on a high-stakes investigation to track down the serial killer and bring him to justice, according to Apple TV+.
However, exclusive and specific details about the real-life women featured in 'Women in Blue' are not available. Despite this, Bruno Bichir plays Goyo Cárdenas, a notorious Mexican serial killer, and detailed information about this character is available.
Who was Goyo Cárdenas?
Goyo Cárdenas was infamously known for his brutal crimes, which garnered significant media attention in Mexico during 1940s.
Born in 1915 in Mexico, Cárdenas exhibited abnormal behavior from a young age, partly due to an encephalitis infection. As a child, he demonstrated signs of cruelty to animals. By the age of 18, he began seeking relationships with prostitutes.
He married Sabina Lara Gonzalez around 1932. The relationship eventually deteriorated, reflecting the personal challenges and instability that marked much of Cárdenas's life.
On August 15, 1942, Cárdenas was visited at his home by a 16-year-old prostitute named María de los Ángeles González. After having sex with her, Cárdenas strangled María and buried her body in his garden.
He continued his murderous spree by killing Rosa Reyes and Raquel Martínez de León. These heinous acts were part of a series of brutal murders that Cárdenas committed, further cementing his notoriety as a serial killer.
His crimes were marked by a chilling pattern of violence and secrecy, which only came to light as investigations unfolded, as reported by El Universal.
What happened to Goyo Cárdenas?
Shortly before the police began exhuming the bodies buried in his garden, Cárdenas took the step of voluntarily admitting himself to a psychiatric hospital.
His attempt to avoid capture was short-lived, as the authorities, already closing in on his crimes, arrested him at the hospital on September 7, 1942, as reported by El Universal.
According to statements made by his mother, Vicenta Hernández, as well as psychologists and criminologists who studied him, he experienced neurological issues.
Dr Gonzalo Lafora suggested that his behavior exhibited pathological traits likely inherited from his father and grandfather, as reported by El Universal.
During his trial, Cárdenas was sentenced to life in prison. In 1947, he managed to escape from prison and fled to Oaxaca, but was later recaptured.
After spending many years in prison following his capture and trial, he died on August 2, 1999.
