Although 'Sons of Anarchy' concluded on FX more than a decade ago in 2014, it has now been reported that Netflix might be adding a potential sequel to the popular show to its own catalogue. ScreenRant explained in their report that Netflix is bringing forth a plethora of original programming-based shows to their streaming platform this December. Among the other shows is the Old West crime drama TV show 'The Abandons', also created by 'Sons of Anarchy' creator Kurt Sutter.

In the absence of an official confirmation, it is difficult to measure the degree to which 'The Abandons' works as a prequel to 'Sons of Anarchy'. However, several revealing points of interest might potentially tie the two shows together. For starters, as per Deadline, both shows have the same creator. Moreover, 'The Abandons' is supposed to feature two characters that might be connected to the world in which 'Sons of Anarchy' was set.

Elias Teller and Dahlia Teller, played by Nick Robinson and Diana Silvers respectively, are two such characters on 'The Abandons'. By nature, they are outlaws, and they accompany the main character ensemble. As of this writing, their character arcs aren't known to the fullest. However, one might speculate that they might serve as a nod to the two characters of Jax and J.T. from 'Sons of Anarchy'. This is further accentuated by the fact that Ryan Hurst, who played the character of Opie Winston, i.e., Jax's best friend on 'Sons of Anarchy', is a member of the upcoming Netflix show's cast.

Being a Western drama TV show that relies on action, 'The Abandons' will transport the streaming audience back to the high-stakes life of the Old West in the 1850s. The way of frontier life, which is haunted by the threats of bandits and the fear of outlaws, will dictate much of the upcoming show's storytelling. If it were to be an authentic portrait of life in that part of the world at that time, the characters would certainly have to be tough themselves.

As per the officially released plot, 'The Abandons' follows the struggles of a religious Irish woman by the name of Fiona Nolan, played by Lena Headey. While Fiona herself is unable to bear children, she decides to adopt four orphans to complete her family. However, happiness seems to elude her as Fiona soon finds herself entangled in a prolonged conflict with an European Aristocratic family known as the Van Ness family, and led by actress Gillian Anderson who plays the character of Constance Van Ness. An ongoing bone of contention between the two opposing parties is Fiona's house in Oregon, one that is also claimed by Constance Van Ness. 'The Abandons' drops on Netflix on December 4.
