'Landman' star weighs in on Taylor Sheridan's Paramount exit after explosive season 2 finale
From the get-go, the high-stakes drama 'Landman' is synonymous with Taylor Sheridan's signature blend of grit, ambition, and moral gray areas. As a creator, Sheridan left no stone unturned to write a narrative so intriguing that it kept fans on the edge of their seats. Notably, season 2 ended on a cliffhanger, with M-Tex's president position open after Cami Miller (Demi Moore) fires Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton), raising the tension. While fans are eagerly awaiting season 3, Jacob Lofland, who plays the character of Cooper Norris in the Paramount show, opened up about Sheridan's departure and its potential impact on the future of 'Landman.'
For those unversed, Sheridan is officially leaving Paramount and has signed with NBCUniversal. After years of rumored dissatisfaction, the 'Yellowstone' creator will start an eight-year movie deal in March 2026, followed by a potentially groundbreaking five-year TV deal in January 2029, as per ScreenRant. Although Sheridan will still oversee 'Landman' Season 3, his departure from Paramount could impact the show if renewed.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Lofland shared his thoughts on Sheridan's departure. He admitted he was sad to see Sheridan go but prefers not to dwell on it, saying, "Yeah, I try not to think about it. No, I mean, I trust everyone there. We'll just see what happens. And I don't know; that's not my business, so I try to stay out of it. That's between them." Lofland expressed confidence in the remaining creative team, including co-creator and executive producer Christian Wallace, who is expected to stay on for season 3.
Talking about the finale of 'Landman' Season 2, after being fired, Tommy plans to start an independent oil company using Cooper's secured leases, but since M-Tex still owns them and funded the wells, he needs a wealthy backer willing to pay $44 million and fund further drilling before profits are shared. When oil executive Bob Knowles (Colin Ferguson) passes, cartel boss Gallino steps in, funding both M-Tex and Tommy's new company, CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle. Tommy then gathers his family and allies, officially revealing that CTT stands for Cooper, Tommy, and Thomas, as per People.
Tommy names Cooper president, Nathan (Colm Feore) as treasurer, Rebecca Falcone (Kayla Wallace) as COO and chief counsel, Dale Bradley (James Jordan) in charge of exploration, and TL Norris (Sam Elliott) overseeing drilling. While the team looks toward brighter days, the finale closes on a somber note as Tommy warns Angela Norris (Ali Larter) of potential challenges: "You know, honey, the time is coming when tragedy is going to dominate our days. Maybe it's me, maybe it's cancer, maybe my mind will go, and I'll wake up one morning, and I won't have a clue who you are, or, God forbid, maybe it's you, a car wreck or whatever, but not today. Today, we win." Angela reassures Tommy with calm optimism, saying, "Baby, I win every day. You do too; you just don't see it, but it's there, it's all around you. Just have to take the time to notice."
