Has 'Pluribus' really been canceled despite its Golden Globe nominations? Here's what's actually going on
Things might not be looking good for Rhea Seehorn's Carol Sturka in post-apocalyptic Albuquerque. However, the show 'Pluribus' has arguably been having the time of its life. As of now, the Vince Gilligan show has been nominated for the 83rd Golden Globe awards in two categories, competing alongside other shows such as 'The Pitt', 'The Diplomat', 'The White Lotus', and 'Slow Horses'. However, in a strange turn of events, Pop Rant reported that social media was recently abuzz with an anti-climactic rumour, claiming 'Pluribus' had been cancelled by Apple TV+.
It all started after an X user named 'flanthippie' claimed that the show had been cancelled. The caption of the post read, "'PLURIBUS' has been cancelled by Apple TV+ after 1 season." Naturally, the post sparked interest and was soon making rounds with 1.6 million impressions and hundreds of comments pouring in. Fans of the Apple TV+ didn't take too kindly to the allegations, with one user declaring, "Dude, let the first season end before jumping to season 2". Another user commented, "How, it was quality." A third user confessed, "Don't scare me, please."
Nevertheless, there's no cause for concern as 'Pluribus' hasn't been cancelled. The cancellation rumour falls flat on its face when confronted with the fact that Apple TV+ has already renewed the second season of the sci-fi show. Moreover, as reiterated by Hollywood Life, Gilligan had previously stated in an interview with Variety that he would "love to see Pluribus go as long as Rhea Seehorn wants it to go." The 'Breaking Bad' creator had further added, "I'm really doing it, as much as anybody, I'm doing it for her. At this point, maybe four seasons, I'm guessing, but who the hell knows?" Apple TV+ has yet to announce an official release window for the sophomore season of the show. There's no confirmation on when the filming might actually begin.
Fans soon began discrediting the X post, with the social media platform now having brought down a community note on the post that reads, "Pluribus has not been cancelled. The show is currently streaming its first season on Apple TV and remains active, with new episodes airing as planned. No official cancellation has been announced.” The show has already been nominated for the 2026 edition of the Critics' Choice Awards.
Seehorn's nomination for the 'Best Actress' award at the 83rd Golden Globes is a first for the talented actress. Expressing her joy and gratitude at this feat, Seehorn told The Hollywood Reporter, "It's been very gratifying that people really want to talk about the show, and they want to talk to each other, and they're making it a show they need to watch with others and discuss things." The upcoming seventh episode of 'Pluribus' is titled 'The Gap' and will air on December 12 on Apple TV+.
