Is Pedro Pascal playing Maxwell Lord? New Wonder Woman 1984 photo sparks speculation
Taking to Twitter on Monday, Jenkins shared yet another 80's style glimpse, but this time teasing the archetypal yuppie in the form of Wonder Woman newcomer Pedro Pascal.
It will take a little over a year before DC loyalists are treated to Gal Gadot's Diana Prince or any other Themysciran characters for that matter. But this has hardly been a deterrent to fan speculation, which was recently reignited by none other than director Patty Jenkins herself with a brand new glimpse from 'Wonder Woman 1984'.
Taking to Twitter on Monday, Jenkins shared yet another 80's style glimpse, but this time teasing the archetypal yuppie in the form of Wonder Woman newcomer Pedro Pascal. Decked in a powder blue three-piece suit, the Narcos actor looked every bit the age and time that the much-anticipated 1984-set sequel represents. As if the picture tease wasn't enough, Jenkins further went on to add to the hype, writing alongside: "Can’t…Stop… Watching… @PedroPascal1 !!!”
While Pascal's look, replete with his grimaced expression, was just enough to send social media on an overdrive, with the latest photo, Jenkins has also managed to spark a fresh wave of speculations. The debate is mostly over Pascal's character - a hitherto undisclosed information - as he takes on a prime role in the sequel which has Gadot and Chris Pine reprising their now-famous parts from the 2017 hit.
Rumor has it that Pascal, who is said to have been cast in a central role in WW84, could be starring as Maxwell Lord - a pastiche of the "business-minded yuppies of the 80's" who went on to hatch nefarious plans of his own and was instrumental in the formation of the Justice League International. Usually described as a powerful and shrewd businessman, the DC Comics character was created by Keith Giffen, J. M. DeMatteis, and Kevin Maguire, appearing in Justice League #1.
But Pascal's character is not the only one which is causing a bit of mystery in the world of fandoms. Earlier it was revealed that Kristen Wiig, to the delight of many critics, would be joining the franchise as Wonder Woman arch-nemesis Cheetah. While as fans we are aware of the next supervillain, the nature of her antagonism still remains shrouded.
"Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman's next big screen adventure finds her facing an all-new foe: The Cheetah," a press release from WB teased. "Principal photography is underway on Warner Bros. Pictures' follow up to the Super Hero's first outing, last summer's record-breaking 'Wonder Woman,' which took in $822 million at the worldwide box office. 'Wonder Woman 1984' will also be helmed by acclaimed director Patty Jenkins, and star Gal Gadot in the title role."
