Zack Snyder's unreleased 'Superman' image of Henry Cavill has fans reeling and honestly same: 'Bring back...'
Zack Snyder knows exactly how to thrill fans, as the acclaimed director recently shared never-before-seen photos of Henry Cavill as Superman, sending DC fans into a frenzy. Snyder and Cavill previously worked together on the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) films 'Man of Steel' and 'Justice League,' a collaboration that still remains a fan favorite. Along with Cavill's images, Snyder also shared a carousel of behind-the-scenes 'Justice League' images.
Captured in a dressing room, the image shows Cavill just moments before putting on the suit that would define his career. Revealing the significance of the photo, Snyder wrote, "5 years ago, on this day, I pressed the shutter and met Superman. The first photo I ever took of Henry Cavill—moments before he stepped into legend. Shot on my Nikon," as per the Cosmic book.
Fans were quick to share their love in the comments on the Instagram post, with many demanding the return of Cavill as Superman. One fan wrote, "Bring him back! we need to see what happens next. Man of steel 2, Batman, justice league 2 and 3." While another shared, "Stop everything you are working on and make Henry cavill superman stuff or ben Affleck batman stuff." A fan remarked, "THIS IS THE REAL ADULT SUPERMAN, bring back Henry Cavill, we want the rest of the Superman stories!" A fan shared, "Legendary shots all throughout those movies. Incredible artistic subtle easter eggs. Bad a** memorable dialogue. Endless action! Emotional and heartbreaking scenes! An 80s kid comic book come to life! Thank you Zack! And you shoot with a Nikon and a Pentax 67 like me! Come on man! Legend!"
The newly released images also include Jason Momoa in Aquaman armor playing a guitar backstage and Ezra Miller's Flash posing beside a large Harley Quinn portrait, nodding to the 'Suicide Squad' era. These photos follow Snyder's recent 'Justice League' drops, which featured black-and-white shots of the Trinity and storyboards from his cancelled sequel storyline involving Darkseid and Knightmare Batman.
The behind-the-scenes images of 'Justice League' also include storyboards outlining Snyder's original plans. Some ideas appeared in the Snyder Cut, while others, like a planned 'Lord of the Rings-style' finale, were scrapped. In both the original and Snyder Cut, the 'Justice League,' with a resurrected Superman (Henry Cavill), battles Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), while Darkseid (Ray Porter) is set up to return, though Snyder's storyboards envisioned an epic final battle against Darkseid's invasion, as per Collider.
The storyboards also reveal a darker subplot for Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) that never made it to the films. Unlike his brief post-credits appearance, Snyder's notes show Darkseid fully controlling Superman, leading to Superman attacking Batman and ultimately killing Lex in a fiery confrontation, a scene that was ultimately cut.
