‘Grey’s Anatomy 22’ promo confirms iconic character’s return after 3 years and Amelia is not ready for it
Well well, Grey Sloan is about to get a familiar knock on the door, and no, it’s not just another stormy Seattle night doing the honors. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ has officially locked in a return that longtime viewers have been hoping for and loudly screaming about online. Addison Montgomery is back. Yes, that Addison. Kate Walsh is stepping once again into the heels of the legendary OB-GYN. Her reappearance is set for season 22, episode 10, an hour titled “Strip That Down.” Per ScreenRant, the episode is scheduled to air Thursday, January 29. The confirmation comes via a freshly released promo.
The teaser opens with Amelia Shepherd answering her front door, and then freezing when she sees Addison standing there like no time has passed at all. Addison doesn’t bother easing into it either. She drops the line, “I've got a patient waiting at Grey Sloan.” Amelia, who is technically supposed to be on sabbatical, looks understandably irritated. She reminds Addison that she shouldn’t even be working right now. Addison’s response is basically a polite refusal. Saying no is not an option. Elsewhere in the episode, Ben Warren and Lucas Adams are left scratching their heads after reading an email that announces a patient’s clinical trial has been abruptly shut down.
Warren decides to loop in Miranda Bailey. Unfortunately for that phone call, Bailey is currently inside an ambulance dealing with a patient who suddenly can’t breathe. The conversation ends immediately. Bailey demands a scalpel. Owen Hunt, already tense, snaps at Benson Kwan and reminds him that this is not a trauma bay and that procedures have limits, even in emergencies. Bailey doesn’t back down. She insists again on the scalpel. Kwan stands there, clearly torn, eyes darting between two authority figures who both sound very sure they’re right. It's a disorder in a small moving vehicle. 'Grey’s Anatomy' specialty.
For the unversed, Addison first appeared way back in Season 1 as Derek Shepherd’s estranged wife. She then became a series regular in Season 2. Her popularity helped launch ‘Grey’s Anatomy’s’ first spinoff, ‘Private Practice’. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it aired for six seasons. Walsh led that series alongside Tim Daly, Audra McDonald, KaDee Strickland, Paul Adelstein, Taye Diggs, Amy Brenneman, Chris Lowell, and others. Caterina Scorsone entered the picture in Season 3 as Amelia. She initially popped up in a recurring role before becoming a regular presence. After ‘Private Practice’ concluded in 2013, Amelia made her way permanently onto ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.
Walsh, however, stayed away from the ‘Grey’s’ world for quite a while. She didn’t return until seasons 18 and 19, when Addison came back for an eight-episode arc. That storyline focused on reproductive healthcare, beginning with Addison’s involvement in a uterine transplant case at Grey Sloan. During her long absence from the hospital halls, Walsh kept busy. She appeared in films like ‘Scary Movie 5’ and ‘Girls Trip’. She also took on roles in shows including ‘Fargo’, ‘Bad Judge’, ‘13 Reasons Why’, ‘The Umbrella Academy’, and ‘Emily in Paris’. This latest comeback, however, is much shorter. Unlike her previous multi-episode run, Walsh is only slated to appear in this single episode.
