‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ 2 filming disrupted by Spain floods — here’s what we know about new location
Production on ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ hit an unexpected speed bump in Spain. However, things are slowly getting back on track after a sudden shutdown forced the team to rethink their plans. The spinoff, which continues to build on the world first introduced in ‘Game of Thrones’, had been filming key sequences for its second season in Gran Canaria. However, nature had other ideas. Heavy flooding in the region caused water levels at the Las Niñas Dam to rise sharply, making it unsafe to continue shooting there. So, the production had no choice but to pause operations while authorities stepped in to manage the damage. Reports suggest the affected area may remain off-limits for a few weeks, which means the crew cannot return anytime soon. But, the team appears to be adapting rather than waiting around.
As reported by Atlántico Hoy, filming is now expected to resume shortly, though not at the original location. Instead, the cast and crew will move to La Fortaleza, another site in Gran Canaria that offers a completely different visual setting. While the Las Niñas Dam area is known for its water-heavy landscapes and dense greenery, La Fortaleza is more rugged and mountainous. Interestingly, this backup location was not chosen at the last minute. Production tents had reportedly been set up at La Fortaleza weeks ago, suggesting that filming there was already part of the plan. In a way, the change may not be as disruptive as it first seemed. Still, switching locations mid-production is never simple. It requires adjusting scenes and coordinating logistics.
At the same time, location scouts are back in action. They are searching for a new spot to replace the Las Niñas Dam for the scenes originally meant to be filmed there. Season 2 had already been in motion before this setback. Filming began in Belfast in December 2025, even before the first season made its debut on HBO. That early start showed just how confident the network is in the show’s potential. The series itself takes a different approach compared to its predecessors. ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ follows the adventures of Dunk (Peter Claffey) and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) as they travel through Westeros.
These characters come from the novellas written by George R.R. Martin, specifically the ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ series. So far, three stories have been published, with the first season adapting ‘The Hedge Knight’. The upcoming installment is expected to draw from ‘The Sworn Sword’. The cast is also expanding for the new season. Alongside returning faces, viewers can expect to see additions like Lucy Boynton, Peter Mullan, and Babou Ceesay. As for when viewers will get to see the finished product, there is still no official premiere date. Current expectations point toward a 2027 release, giving the team enough time to wrap filming and handle post-production without rushing.
