LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: We had a feeling that 'SNL' would spoof 'The Last of Us' in some way, but did you expect 'Mario Kart'? 'Saturday Night Live' has taken on some of the most famous movies and shows in the past. This week's episode hit the right chord when we saw our favorite Pedro Pascal outside of his usual 'The Last of Us' universe - in a 'Mario Kart' world instead, but inspired by his ongoing HBO Max hit series.

Pedro Pascal is currently signed up with one of the biggest video game and TV franchises out there - HBO Max. The video game adaptation 'The Last of Us' is praised for its uncanny resemblance to the game, and how well the video game has translated into the screen. When 'Saturday Night Live' reimagined 'Mario Kart' in the world of 'The Last of Us', you knew it would be otherworldly.

Where is 'The Last of Us' filmed?

Twitter went crazy with this week's episode of 'Saturday Night Live'. The entire episode was brilliant for 'The Last of Us' fans — the classic Nintendo game 'Mario Kart' reimagined as a dark thriller with a lot of iconic 'Mario Kart' characters. Pedro Pascal played Mario, and some other iconic characters including Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, and some piranha plants. We can only imagine the fun SNL's writers had while working on the sketch.

'Best episode of the season so far': Internet lauds the sketch

"#PedroPascalSNL was great! Love him! We need more hilarious hosts, like Pedro, Aubrey Plaza, and Michael B. Jordan. So far these have been the best!" an impressed viewer wrote about the sketch on Twitter. "Ok but let's talk about the visual effects, they are so good!!" another tweeted.

"I would pay good money to watch this," someone claimed, while another added, "What does nintendo have to say about this lol."

'Missed opportunity': Fans think Jimmy Fallon would add to the fun

Meanwhile, others had fun toying with possibilities. One viewer nominated Jimmy Fallon as Waluigi, considering his previous experience. "Missed opportunity to have @jimmyfallon as Waluigi getting hit by a blue shell. He's got racing experience on #FallonTonight," they wrote.
