Former BTOB star Ilhoon has been jailed for two years over the charges of purchasing and using marijuana from 2016 to 2019. The K-pop star was presented at Seoul Central District Court where a senior judge Yang Cheol Han delivered the verdict for his habitual marijuana usage.

BTOB fans have taken to social media to protest against 'unfair' sentencing as they claim that the 26-year-old rapper has already apologized multiple times but still given such a harsh punishment. The artist was arrested in the court itself as the judge stated that Ilhoon might risk 'fleeing.' Earlier, the prosecution demanded four years of jail time for the K-pop crooner.

Ilhoon finally sentenced to two years

According to reports, Ilhoon was under investigation by Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency for Marijuana usage. The K-pop artist has purchased over $119,000 (about ₩133 million KRW) worth of marijuana between July 2016 and January 2019. Reportedly, he used marijuana a roundabout of 161 times in between. After the final sentencing, the K-pop crooner's legal representative emphasized how apologetic Ilhoon has been for the last few months.

The legal counsel noted, "The defendant is reflecting deeply on his actions. He was fearful as it was the first trial and investigation of his life. He worked in the entertainment industry at such a young age and he tried to relieve the stress in the wrong way."

Two-year jail term slammed by fans

Enraged fans have taken to Twitter to protest against the harsh punishment of the idol. A fan in fury tweeted, "so Himchan gets 10 months for sexual assault and Ilhoon gets TWO YEARS for marijuana???? how does that add up!" Another fan slammed the system saying, "Himchan was not detained right away and only got 10 months after sexual assault conviction (with a prior as well for DUI) but Ilhoon gets 2 years for smoking WEED?!! Ridiculous!" Holding on to hope, a fan said, "Since Ilhoon has submitted 3 letters of apology to the court so far and made his sincere statement of reflection. hope the judges can review it with kindness and consider it in a way of watching a young boy who lost his way while struggling to survive in this crucial world!"
