It hasn’t been smooth sailing for (G)I-DLE, however, it looks like they have overcome all odds since their first-ever studio album ‘I Never Die’ topped charts worldwide. 2021 was an unfortunate year as they lost member Soojin who was fired over bullying rumors. It was followed by Soyeon being trolled for allegedly having botched plastic surgery followed by a plagiarism scandal as her song was similar to Ateez’s ‘Wave’ for which she apologized. Even the second-youngest member, Yuqi wasn’t left alone as she was linked with GOT7’s Jackson.

Furthermore, ‘Tomboy’ is the title track of ‘I Never Die’ which has fans divided as some speculate that it's a diss at former labelmate, Hyuna while others think it is shading Soojin’s accusers. But (G)I-DLE is climbing to the top irrespective of the chaos as ‘I Never Die’ topped the iTunes Albums Chart in 24 countries like Malaysia and Brazil. Even ‘Tomboy’ topped iTunes as it was #1 in 11 major regions like USA, UK and Australia.

Jackson and Yuqi dating rumor: GOT7 star takes legal action, fans say ‘show no mercy’

'I Never Die' tops charts

‘I Never Die’ became the third (G)I-DLE album to peak at #1 after debuting at #2 on the Worldwide iTunes chart while ‘Tomboy’ debuted at #27. The album has also crossed 120k sales in 48 hours. ‘Tomboy’ did well even on Korean charts as it was #1 on Bugs, #2 on Genie, #3 on MelOn, #5 on FLO and #9 on VIBE. Even the music video for it crossed 10 million views in 16 hours, 20 million in less than 2 days and trended at #2 on YouTube.

'Liar' sparks dating rumor

At the same time, the b-side track ‘Liar’ is turning heads as Knetizens think that Soyeon’s rap lyrics are for rapper Changmo who might have dated her in the past. The (G)I-DLE leader seems to be dissing an ex as she raps, “I followed you/But your mom said she didn't like that, tell her that I didn't like it either/You tell me to mind my own business, look at that attitude/Say it to my face, not behind my back, even though you're not even here/Before treating your next lover like a baby/Get your spelling right first, kid (aiya).”

'Soyeon went hard'

It should be noted that ‘Aiya’ is the title of a 2016 song by Changmo. Knetz also think that Soyeon might be addressing the criticism Changmo got for not knowing the spellings of ‘become’ and ‘okay’ in Korean in April 2021. Knetz made posts like, “No matter how you look at the lyrics, it's a snipe at Changmo.” Another user joked, “So I guess she is having her uh Tayler Swift moment? lmao it wasn’t a pairing I imagined but it kinda make sense( I guess?) That would be interesting if Changmo comeback with a diss track targeting Soyeon tho.”

One user added, “For once a rumour that doesn't sound incredibly far fetched. Still, there's no way to know if she was targeting him or it's just a coincidence, and at the end of the day it doesn't really even matter does it?” One fan was worried, “This album sure is fueling a lot of rumors. I just don't want them to hurt Soyeon or Idle.” Another said, “OR... she just may be roasting him...or not even pointing at him at all.” One wondered, “WAAAAIT Didn't Changmo has a long time gf? Or should I said had? I think I remember they were still together last year. Also, this is juicy lol Soyeon went hard lmao.”

'Y'all just making things '

(G)I-DLE fans are, however, upset that such rumors are overshadowing the success of the album, “Why every time the girls are doing well, like 10 articles come out trying to tarnish their image. Someone must be paying the media well, like they did in the past.” Another fan commented, “He literally follows her on insta. why would he follow her if they are exes and on bad terms? y'all just making things up at this point.” One added, “Can y’all leave soyeon alone for once.”
