LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 22 is all set to premiere on Sunday, February 18 on ABC at 8 pm ET. This season will also be judged by pop singer Katy Perry, country music artist Luke Bryan, and renowned singer Lionel Richie. The winner of the show is set to take a quarter million dollars and a recording contract home.

Viewers are eager to know what will the winner of America's popular singing contest receive. According to Distractify, a prize money of $250,000 and a deal with Hollywood Records/19 Recordings await the champion. The record label gives the winners $1000 each week as living costs for finished and turning recording. Singers are expected to return the investment when they make the album and also would pay back 50 percent cost of the promotions.

However, winning 'American Idol' does not secure the future of the singers. For instance, Samantha 'Just Sam' Diaz had to return to performing in the subway because her financial condition was not good. In a series of posts, she said that she left the label before releasing an album and owed them money. In an interview with Just Jared, she explained, "I’m recording all the time or making music all the time, writing every day, doing what I have to do to survive."

She continued, "Just cannot afford to release music, because mixing and mastering music costs a lot of money. And I invested in myself and ended up broke. That’s the truth. Not broke, broke – like I’m living. I have my place.' However, 'American Idol' has also given fame and recognition to many, such as Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert, Jennifer Hudson, and Chris Daughtry. Country singer Carrie Underwood, the winner of 'American Idol' Season 4 in 2005, received a million-dollar recording contract as well as the use of a private jet and a car. She is considered the most successful 'American Idol' winner and went on to release nine studio albums and won 8 Grammy awards.
