LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 premiered its first episode on HBO on June 16, 2024. The aura created by a magnificent first season was carried into the second season with a marvelous episode that reminded audiences why the epic action-adventure series is one of the most popular shows ever.

Episode 1 introduced a new character called Alyn of Hull played by Abubakar Salim, who in his conversation with Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) reveals to the audience that he had fought alongside Lord Corlys in Stepstones and saved his life too.

'House of the Dragon' is based on George R R Martin's 'Fire and Blood' and if the events of the book are followed, this character will become a very important character going forward. Here's a look at Alyn of Hull and the role he will play in the Dance of the Dragons.

As per the book, Alyn of Hull or Alyn Velaryon is a character who along with his brother Addam Velaryon grew up on Driftmark. Their origins are debated and their mother Marilda of Hull claimed that they were born to Laenor Velaryon (John Macmillan).

The theory is debatable because Laenor Velaryon is a homosexual in 'House of the Dragon' and 'Fire and Blood'. There are some suspicions of them being illegitimate children of Lord Corlys Velaryon.

In the book, they have Velaryon features but in the show, Alyn has a distinctly different appearance to that of the Velaryons as he doesn't have the golden hair that is typical to the Velaryons.

In the book, Alyn is also seen as a much younger character than in the show. In the book, he is said to have commanded a ship when he was 15 years old.

As per the book, Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D' Arcy) legitimizes both Alyn and his brother Addam naming them heir to Driftmark. Alyn also tries to ride a dragon Sheepstealer but has a scarring experience.

After his brother dies during Dance of the Dragons, he is named heir to Driftmark and fights alongside Corlys Velaryon in battle. After Rhaenyra's death, his ship transports Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) back to King's Landing.

After Lord Corlys' death, he becomes the Lord of the Tide and also serves as Lord Admiral for Aegon III Targaryen at the end of Dance of the Dragons as Aegon III is crowned King.

The adaptation may be different in the show as we have already seen, Alyn of Hull is shown to have fought in Stepstones with Lord Corlys. In the opening exchanges, there does seem to be an uneasy chemistry between the two.

Further, we know that Laenor Velaryon is alive in the show whereas he died in the book, so Laenor will be the preferred heir to the throne of Driftmark if he comes back from Essos.
