The episode has become one of the most highly acclaimed episodes in the series, and there is a great deal of anticipation for the next episode.HBO Max has heightened anticipation by releasing a preview of the next episode. Viewers searched for clues about Aegon II Targaryen's health in the trailer, but none were found.
'House of the Dragon' is based on 'Fire and Blood' and here is what happens to the character in 'House of the Dragon' according to the book.
Is Aegon dead after 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Episode 4?
Aegon was burnt by his brother Aemond Targaryen's(Ewan Mitchell) dragon Vhagar and he fell a long way down after being hit. It caused huge damage to him as he faced burns and broken bones leaving him incapacitated.
The trailer shows the Greens singing praises of King Aegon and how he slayed the dragon Meleys and that is of course far from the truth but his rule as the King continues as the Greens decide on who rules in his absence.
As for Aegon, he has a long road to recovery ahead as he is given Milk of the Poppy which has adverse effects on him and he spends most of his time unconscious. He is unable to walk or be active in any way but Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) helps him escape King's Landing as it falls to Rhaenyra.
Will Aegon II Targaryen be King again?
Aegon II Targaryen gets to Dragonstone with the help of Larys Strong where he wins against Baela Targaryen (Bethany Antonia). He later also gets his revenge against Rhaenyra Targaryen who gets fed to Sunfyre.
The battle however hurts him heavily as his legs get injured and he spends a considerable amount of time in recovery again. He does gain his footing again albeit improperly.
He returns to King's Landing to rule after his brothers and Rhaenyra are dead. He eventually gets killed by Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) and a few other conspirators as he gets poisoned by them in King's Landing.
While the fate of Aegon is currently in the balance for 'House of the Dragon', there is still a huge role for the character in the show and he is still a very important character going forward.
