'Home Alone' reboot: Release date, plot, news and everything you need to know about the Disney+ reimagination

While 'Home Alone' caught the most eyeballs, 'Night At the Museum', 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' and 'Cheaper By the Dozen' are among the other movies set to get a reboot on Disney Plus

Who doesn't love the thrill and adventures of Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) in the 'Home Alone' franchise? If you miss watching the fun and frolic as he is left behind by his family, here's some good news for you. Reportedly, Disney recently announced that there might be a reimagining of 'Home Alone' in the works.

Disney’s Bob Iger told Deadline that four famous franchises might be included on its Disney+ streaming service. While 'Home Alone' caught the most eyeballs, 'Night At the Museum', 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' and 'Cheaper By the Dozen' were among the other names from its newly acquired Fox movie library. However, details of the reboots have been kept under wraps. Iger said only that they will be “reimagined” for “a new generation.” It is not known whether it would be similar to the original version or a new story based on the old theme. There's isn't any information about when it might appear on the streaming service too.

Release date

There is no official confirmation on the release date of the show but the streaming service will be launched on November 12. Watch this space for more updates.

Plot

A much-loved franchise around an 8-year-old mischievous middle child Kevin, the story revolves around how his large extended family accidentally miss out and lock him at home while preparing for a Christmas vacation. The movie series chronicles the adventures of Kevin, who gets in trouble and ends up in funny situations including fending off a couple of thieves from looting his home. However, it is yet to be seen whether the plot of the reboot deviates from the original one or sticks to the same idea.

News

No sooner did the news drop on social media, Culkin—who essayed the role of Kevin McCallister in the franchise—shared a hilarious take on what the reimagining might look like. Sharing an image of himself binge-watching television with snacks around him, he captioned the post: "This is what an updated Home Alone would actually look like," and added, "Hey @Disney, call me!"

Roaring with laughter, his fans also joined the bandwagon and brought up new themes for the reboot. While one user tweeted, "Home alone: grown-up and not minding being alone," another one wrote, "THIS I would watch! The resulting psychological effects of forgetting your child for a vacation x 2, generally being shitty parents! A dark comedy!"

Where to watch

You can stream the show on Disney Plus once it launches on November 12. However, there are no details on when the show will premiere.
