'Hightown' is an upcoming Starz crime drama series executive produced Rebecca Cutter, Gary Lennon, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, and KristieAnne Reed.

Release

The show will premiere on May 17 on Starz.

Plot

The official synopsis of the show is as follows:

Set in beautiful but bleak Cape Cod, 'Hightown' follows one woman’s journey to sobriety, overshadowed by an unfolding murder investigation. Jackie Quiñones, a hard-partying National Marine Fisheries Service agent, has her free-wheeling life thrown into disarray when she discovers a body on the beach — another casualty of Cape Cod’s opioid epidemic.

To deal with the trauma, Jackie takes the first steps toward sobriety — until she is convinced it’s up to her to solve the murder.

Now at odds with sergeant Ray Abruzzo, an abrasive but effective member of the Cape Cod Interagency Narcotics Unit, Jackie starts to spiral. And she’s not alone — Ray himself crosses more lines than he can count in the name of the investigation. The two of them, along with everyone else connected to the murder, all circle each other, and as their lives crash together, we’re reminded just how complicated — and deadly — our addictions can be.

Cast

Monica Raymund as Jackie Quinones

Raymund is playing Jackie, a National Marine Fisheries Services agent and a lesbian happy to use her gun and badge to pick up tourist chicks in “P-Town”, the gay Mecca of Provincetown, MA.

Jackie's life is all partying and pussy, and that suits her irreverent and restless personality. But when she finds a body washed up on the beach, Jackie’s usual tactics of sarcasm and avoidance can't help her cope. As she faces her own addictive behaviors, she becomes increasingly obsessed with solving the murder. Jackie’s forced to confront the dark side of the idyllic summer spot — all the while putting herself, and her sobriety, in danger.

James Badge Dale as Ray Abruzzo

Ray Abruzzo is a Massachusetts State Trooper, currently a sergeant with the Cape Cod Interagency Narcotics Unit.

Ray prefers casual over business attire, which matches his predilection for fieldwork with informants over desk duty. Unapologetically demanding and impulsive, he tends to rub people the wrong way, which may explain why he leads a lonely life. Ray operates by the book when it suits him, but as soon as the rules slow him down, they're forgotten.

Ray is determined to nail the man he holds responsible for his CI's death — a drug kingpin who is pulling the strings of his criminal empire from behind bars while awaiting trial.

Shane Harper as Junior McCarthy

The son of a Cape Cod fisherman, Junior puts in hours on the boat, but that way of life doesn't provide like it used to. He’s got ninety days clean off opiates, but if he wants to make enough to reunite with his girlfriend and their baby, Junior has no choice but to keep dealing. He’s funny and charming, but his double life chips away at his soul, threatening to send him down a path he may not return from.

Riley Voelkel as Renee Segna

Born and raised in a lower-class family on the Cape, Renee is a survivor whose trauma has made her believe that relationships are transactional. That belief has landed her a career as an exotic dancer, and a long term relationship with a drug kingpin. Caustic at times, she keeps up an emotional wall only penetrable by her five-year-old son.

Whenever she feels threatened, physically or emotionally, she is able to use her quick wit and foresight to come out on top. Renee is aware of her own power and knows how to use it, but when real emotions take root, she'll find herself off-kilter.

Trailer

The trailer introduces Jackie Quinones as a drug and alcohol addict who has sought the help of a professional to help her. During a consultation with a psychologist, she says that she found a dead body of a white girl and speaking further about the dead girl she makes a comment about how white girls love problems. She is clearly a problematic individual who believes that conversation with strange women can be started off with "I found a dead body. Wanna buy me a drink?"

How Jackie's life unfolds after she comes across the body of this dead girl seems to be the crux of the show, which will also delve into the character's psyche.
