'Hightown': Why the finale is not airing today? Here's what you can expect when Episode 8 '#Blessed' returns

'#Blessed' is likely to nail the coffin on whether Jackie — relapsing road to recovery and Ray who mostly sleeps with all of his confidential informants — are able to solve Sherry Henry's murder

As the Fourth of July celebrations kick in, 'Hightown' fans will have to wait for a whole extra week for the ever-so-teasing finale to return. As we stand on the brink of Junior McCarthy's (Shane Harper) tragic death from an apparent drug overdose or even a possible homicide,  tension builds up about what's next to come in the finale, Episode 8, titled '#Blessed'. The edgy and pretty ominous title itself leads to intrigue piqued. But the wait for it going to be much longer than usual.

Most likely due to the celebrations and specials coming up in honor of the country's 244th birthday, but the final episode of Hightown's debut season has been postponed to next Monday. While Independence Day is as good a time as any to celebrate and distract us from the death of what was easily the most fan-favorite character on the show, we also cannot wait long enough to find out just how this season ends.

It is expected that '#Blessed' will nail the coffin on whether Jackie Quinones (Monica Raymund) and detective Ray Abruzzo (James Badger Dale) are able to solve Sherry Henry's murder among others. After a whole season of their personal investigations on leading to added sex scenes on the show, not much can be vouched for the detective work they have done, and more than our marine cop Jackie, it's on Ray. On one hand, we have Jackie's relapsing road to recovery and sobriety, and on the other, there is Ray who mostly sleeps with all of his confidential informants - the latest on the list being the criminal mastermind's baby mama Renee (Riley Voelkel).

While Ray and Renee's chemistry picks up, that's not our concern really. We are more concerned about how close Ray gets to acting convicting Renee's baby daddy and local druglord Frankie Cuevas (Amaury Nolasco) who's currently sitting in prison and having his right-hand mule Osito (Atkins Estimond) run the show from the outside. And for all the brutal murders Osito has committed, there's no forgetting the final moments of kindness she had shown junior. So even though Jackie and Ray's victory will come with taking down Osito at first, we're not sure how far we really want to see it.

The show has a sub-plot too — how Jackie will deal with finding out what's happened to Junior, and knowing how easily she spirals, things can get very nasty very fast. But that has gone on for way too long now and impatient fans just want the eight-episode saga to wrap. There's isn't much to be dug into if the detectives actually did their work instead of listening and pleasuring himself to audios of sex workers performing oral sex during prison visit so it's best that this finale not end with a cliffhanger.

'Hightown' finale Episode 8: '#Blessed' will air on Sunday, July 12, at 8 pm on Starz.
