LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix has introduced us to some of the greatest TV shows there are, and one of them is 'Stranger Things.' The concept of the series is quite phenomenal, but something that stands out is the fact that it has a great script. While the Duffer Brothers regretted doing many things that were criticized by fans, like killing off a potent character Chrissy Cunningham, portrayed by Grace Van Dien, by the end of Episode 1 of Season 4 Volume 1. But did you know that much loved Steve Harrington's character had a darker plot?

Although we are discussing some of the bad decisions taken by the production in aspects of the story of the show, today we will discuss a plot angle that was later dropped by the Duffer Brothers for being too violent and which had the potential to turn a loveable character into a villain. Character development is the main theme in 'Stranger Things,' which makes it possible for the audience to understand the character and also see them grow into their greatest potential.

Babysitter Steve

Joe Keery who plays Steve Harrington in the Netflix hit-show 'Stranger Things' revealed in a recent interview about a controversial plot that was supposed to be the fate of Steve, but last minute conversation probably changed the course for the character and gave him a developing arc that turned an arrogant jerk into a lovable babysitter, who the children's clan loved and adored. Originally, the Duffer Brothers had planned a controversial plot for Steve where he sexually assaults Nancy. But, that idea was scrapped when Duffer Brothers opened up about taking more theme ideas for the character and Keery suggested that Steve should be a jerk at first, but come out as someone who does mean well.

"Originally, I auditioned for Jonathan. They were having everybody across the country audition for that. And when I got the script, Steve was definitely a little harsher. He was having this party—I think it was on a beach, because it originally took place in Montauk, Long Island. And he was a total, total d**k. He forced himself on Nancy. Way harsher." He further added, "But I think the Duffer Brothers were up for incorporating ideas we would have into the characters, and I had an instant idea what Steve would be like. I based it on people in my life, and characters that you see in those movies. In my mind, I think he has qualities that make him sort of a jerk. And aloof. And maybe not the most intelligent guy. But at the end of the day, I think he really does mean well," according to GQ

Steve assaulting Nancy would have made him irredeemable

The love which Steve has gotten from fans across the world would have been the opposite if Steve's earlier story arc was taken into consideration. The character would have never returned from the hate and would have been quite impossible to make fans believe that he means well and is changing, especially one who would end up working closely with Nancy and become friends with her after the couple breaks up in Season 2. Also considering the same scenario when the entire gang is present together fighting Vecna in 'Stranger Things' Season 4. 'Stranger Things' has had its share of dark moments, but this would be an especially uncomfortable moment in the show because it's not a supernatural threat - it's something that unfortunately happens in the real world.

Why do fans love Steve?

Steve's character development was one of the most remarkable character arcs that not only brought an underrated and hated character to life but also made him one of the essential characters that drive the plot ahead. There is a statement that is making rounds on the internet since Steve became an internet sensation which is "Everyone loves Steve." The character not only supports everyone and becomes a source of inspiration for Dustin, but is always on the frontier when things go batsh*t crazy in Hawkins.
