LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA : Netflix's 'Stranger Things' shoots an incredibly high percentage of its scenes on-site, especially considering how much of the plot takes place in a horrid otherworld. The popular sci-fi series includes many locations that viewers can actually travel to in the real world, from the village of Hawkins, Indiana, to a gulag in Kamchatka.

However, in 'Stranger Things', the streets and buildings don't always look as they do, just like in Upside Down. If you're curious about the additional real-world sites that appear in 'Stranger Things' and what odd settings they portray, here is a list of a few locations that you can visit.

'Stranger Things', 'Ozark' take top spots as most-watched shows of 2022, 'Wednesday' comes in third

1. 6501 Church Street, Douglasville, Georgia

The commercial space in Douglasville, functioned as the Palace Arcade, where, in Season 2, Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Will first learn about Madmax, also known as Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink). The Family Video store, whose most well-known employees are Steve and Robin (Maya Hawke), is located just next to the arcade. You can still get a nice look at the front of the two stores, even though they are up for sale right now.

2. Downtown Jackson, Georgia

Many locations that have appeared in 'Stranger Things' as the major commercial and administrative district of Hawkins may be seen in Downtown Jackson. You can find Melvald's General Shop at the intersection of 2nd Street and North Mulberry. This is where Joyce purchased all those Christmas lights in order to speak to Will (Noah Schnapp) in the Upside Down.

Bradley's Olde Pub is located at Oak Street and served as the neighborhood theater in Season 1. Just past the pub is the alley where Steve (Joe Keery) and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) exchanged hands. The Butts County Probate Court, also known as the Hawkins Public Library to residents of Jackson, is visible from the street at West Third. The East Point Library, in East Point, Georgia was used to film the inside shots of the library.

3. 906 East 2nd Avenue, Rome, Georgia

The Creel House in Rome, Georgia is another iconic 'Stranger Things' shooting location that fans may visit in person. The Creel family massacre, which introduces Vecna's story in Season 4, takes place in the Victorian mansion, making it the ideal location. It's vital to bear in mind that there could be actual individuals residing in the Creel mansion, much like with the Byers residence. If you choose to go, take great care not to bother anyone.

4. Emory University Hospital in Smyrna, Georgia

Smyrna, where the Emory University Hospital is situated, is yet another Georgian town that made significant contributions to Hawkins' appearance. In the television series, the hospital is referred to as Hawkins Memorial. In Season 4, Max had her final confrontation with Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) there. In "Stranger Things' Season 3, Hawkins Memorial also has a significant role, it serves as a true battleground for the children and one of the Mind Flayer's minions.

5. Building A, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia

'Stranger Things' enigmatic and horrifying Hawkins National Laboratory was provided by the city of Atlanta. It turns out that a building in Emory University's Briarcliff campus is where a number of MKUltra experiments involving both adult and child participants, including our beloved Eleven, were carried out. The laboratory is actually an abandoned mental health facility in real life. Earlier, in August 2022, the structure was scheduled for demolition so that a senior living complex could be built there instead.

6. Mary Hall, Berry College in Mount Berry, Georgia

Speaking of universities and mental hospitals, a 'Stranger Things' shooting occurred at Berry College's Mary Hall building in Mount Berry, which is where Pennhurst Psychiatric Hospital, in Karley County, is located.

7. Lukiskes Prison, Vilnius, Lithuania

Last but not least, the abandoned Lukiskes Prison in Vilnius served as the backdrop for the gulag sequences starring Hopper in Season 4. As one might anticipate from a jail, Lukiske has a sombre past. During various times in Lithuanian history, both the Polish and the Soviet occupiers used the facility to imprison political prisoners. It served as a temporary detention center for Polish and Jewish inmates during the World War II.

The final execution in Lithuania took place in Lukiskes in 1995, and after a series of human rights investigations by the European Commission for the Prevention of Torture, it was permanently shut down in 2019. The prison was converted into a cultural hub, but the story is far from over. The Lithuanian government declared that a portion of the facility would be auctioned after it was used in Season 4 of 'Stranger Things'. Several others thought it was tacky, that Lukik's now offers a Stranger Things-themed cell, which people can pay to sleep in as part of a deal between Netflix and Airbnb.
