LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dear Upper East Siders and the people of Constance Billard, the first month of the new year came bearing sad news for all the 'Gossip Girl' lovers out there. The teen drama streaming television series, which was developed by Joshua Safran for HBO Max released in November 2021. Unfortunately, after just two short years the series is signing off once and for all. Perhaps it is safe to say that Season 2 of the teen drama revival will be its last. Joshua Safran who developed the show recently released a statement to address the news on his social media.

However, it is an extension and a standalone sequel to The CW television series of the same name, which is based on the novel series written by Cecily von Ziegesar. During the time when the OG series aired, it was narrated by 'Frozen' star Kristen Bell, who reprised her role as the voice of 'Gossip Girl', an anonymous and omniscient blogger for the HBO Max series as well.

On Instagram, Safran announced 'Gossip Girl's cancellation with the 'heaviest of hearts.'

"So here's the goss: it is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce GOSSIP GIRL will not be continuing on HBO Max," said Joshua Safran. He continued, "We are currently looking for another home, but in this climate, that might prove an uphill [battle], and so if this is the end, at least we went out on the highest of highs. Thank you for watching, and I hope you'll tune into the finale next Thursday to see how it all comes together." He ends the announcement by saying, "A big thank you to all the GG fans around the world. You’re the reason we came back in the first place, and who knows, maybe the reason we will meet again. Much love."

The series features an ensemble cast led by Jordan Alexander, Whitney Peak, Tavi Gevinson, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zión Moreno, Savannah Lee Smith, and Grace Duah.

The new version of 'Gossip Girl,' which featured an entirely new cast, mostly failed to live up to the reputation of the original series which had Blake Lively and Leighton Meester starring as Serena Vanderwoodsen and Blaire Waldorf. Although, 'Gossip Girl's second season still has to play out on HBO Max, with the finale scheduled for January 26, 2023.
