'Happy Days of Garry Marshall': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about the upcoming special on ABC

The network is all set to honor the television and film legend Gary Marshall in a two-hour special tribute and it seems like the perfect star-studded event

Garry Marshall, the American producer, actor, screenwriter, and director is the name behind some of the most iconic romantic comedies of our times, who passed away in 2016. And now, the entire industry has gotten together to honor the legend and remember him at his best in a two-hour special tribute.

Release Date

The television special event will air on Tuesday, May 12, at 8 pm/7c, only on ABC.

Show Format

The two hour special will see Hollywood celebrities, television personalities, and stars, sharing their memories and giving tribute to Marshall through their eulogies, anecdotes, memoirs, and snippets of Marshall's works. 

Garry Kent Marshall was known for creating 'Happy Days' and its various spin-offs. He started his career as a writer on 'The Tonight Show' and eventually came to be known for developing Neil Simon's 'The Odd Couple' for TV. Marshall is the name and brain behind some of the best modern rom-com Hollywood classics like 'Pretty Woman', 'Beaches', 'Runaway Bride', 'Valentine's Day', 'New Year's Eve', 'Mother's Day', 'The Princess Diaries', and 'The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement'.

The special show is aimed at capturing and commemorating the positive and cheerful personality of Marshall as he was known. 

Guests/Host

The tribute special will see stars like 'Pretty Woman'‘s Richard Gere, Hector Elizondo and Julia Roberts; Ron Howard, Don Most, Marion Ross, Anson Williams and Henry Winkler (Happy Days); Cindy Williams, David Lander and Michael McKean (Laverne & Shirley); Pam Dawber (Mork & Mindy); Barbara Hershey (Beaches); and Julie Andrews, Anne Hathaway and Chris Pine (The Princess Diaries) sharing their memories of Marshall.

Additionally, there will be appearances from more celebrities like 'The Tonight Show' and 'The Late Night' show star Jimmy Kimmel and actors Abigail Breslin, Yvette Nicole Brown, Cary Elwes, Jennifer Garner, Kate Hudson, Ashton Kutcher, Rob Lowe and John Stamos.

Garry Marshall’s wife, Barbara, and their children Scott, Kathleen and Lori, will be there to share never-before-heard stories about Marshall, including a walk down the memory lane of Marshall's career and personal life.
