Will 'Happiest Season' get a sequel? Fans can’t wait to see romance between Kristen Stewart and Aubrey Plaza

Hulu's romantic comedy film 'Happiest Season' released today, November 25, and it seems to have struck the right chord with the audience by skillfully showing the struggles of a queer woman coming out to her conservative family. The film is directed by Clea DuVall, who has also co-written the script with Mary Holland. The film starring Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis has earned positive reviews from critics. 

The official synopsis for the movie reads, "A young woman with a plan to propose to her girlfriend while at her family's annual holiday party discovers her partner hasn't yet come out to her conservative parents."

It was initially scheduled for a theatrical release on November 20, 2020. But had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic before Hulu bought it. The film's original soundtrack features songs by Bebe Rexha, Shea Diamond, Carlie Hanson, Tegan and Sara among others. 

Social media is abuzz with posts about the movie as people are sharing their opinions about the film after watching it. And, the majority of them are asking if the movie will return with a sequel. Meanwhile, a lot of them are talking about Aubrey Plaza's character Riley and how they would like to see her play the lead in it. 

One user wrote, "Riley deserves the sequel to #HappiestSeason and this is not up for debate." Adding to that another wrote, "Just putting it out there...I would absolutely watch a sequel where Riley gets her HEA. #HappiestSeason" One tweeted, "I'd watch a spin off/sequel of #HappiestSeason with Riley's story. I enjoyed every scene with @evilhag."

Another tweeted, "Okay, but hear me out. A #HappiestSeason sequel about Riley and I’m her really adorable girlfriend. Thoughts? Questions? Concerns? Lemme know."

And some of them are shipping Abby and Riley, roles played by Stewart and Plaza. One tweeted, "I want a sequel where Riley gets with Abby. Great chemistry. Was rooting for them all the way through. #HappiestSeason" Another added, "they really put aubrey plaza in the movie gave her scenes with kristen stewart and then expected us not to ship them.. sounds unrealistic so where’s riley’s sequel??#HappiestSeason"
