Hanteo Music Awards 2021: Dates, nominees, winners and about 1st K-pop chart awards
The award season in the West, as well as in the East, is in full swing. And South Korea is pretty much dominating them. It was previously announced that the critically acclaimed Netflix K-drama 'Squid Game' had been nominated at the Critics’ Choice Awards and at the Golden Globes 2022. We also have the likes of global K-pop group BTS sweeping the awards at MTV EMAs, AMAs and at huge K-pop award shows like MAMA 2021, MMA and AAA. And now we have the first award show from South Korea’s Hanteo Chart.
Hanteo Chart is one of the major music charts that look at album sales and digital streams of releases in South Korea. They were the world’s first real-time music chart and South Korea’s first music chart. They also award album sales certifications to those releases that cross certain milestones like 500k sales or 1 million sales. Topping their charts is also considered as a criterion for winning awards at several K-pop award shows. Their success on the charts also reflects the artists’ success in their own country as Hanteo looks at domestic sales. Well, it looks like they will be using their own data to now honor K-pop artists at the very first edition of Hanteo Music Awards.

Hanteo Music Awards 2021 will be spread out and take place over a span of three weeks.
December 20 - Initial Chodong Record Award
December 27 - Artist Award
January 3, 2022 - Rookie Award
January 7 at 6 pm KST (4 am ET) - WhosFandom Award
January 10 - Special Award
Where to watch
The 2021 Hanteo Music Awards was initially supposed to be held like a music festival over two weeks. But due to the outbreak of Covid-19 once again, strict guidelines have made it impossible. Instead, Hanteo Chart will be going online. The music award show will be virtual on the K-pop platform – WhosFan app.
Award nominations and winners
Nominations, as well as the winners, will be announced on the WhosFan app.
Initial Chodong Record Award - It is based on the first-week sales of a release.
Artist Award - It is given to artists who have had a huge influence in the music industry in 2021.
Rookie Award - It is for rookie artists that represent 2021. The label rookie is applied to those K-pop artists till their second year of debuting.
Special Award - It is for those artists who promote in special genres and areas with physical albums, digital music and social media.
WhosFandom Award - It is 100% based on fan votes and is awarded to the artist and their fandom. There will be three winners. The first edition of the WhosFandom Award was paired with the 30th Seoul Music Awards and the winners were BTS and their fandom ARMY.

Fans can vote for the voting-based categories like WhosFandom Award on the WhosFan app. Voting for the WhosFandom Award will take place from December 15 at 12 pm KST (December 14 at 10 pm ET) to January 6, 2022 till 11:59 am KST (January 5 till 9:59 pm ET). Fans can vote with credits and Star Chart points.
