The acclaimed Broadway musical 'Hamilton' is all set to go digital with a new stage-to-screen adaptation coming to the Disney+ streaming service. Recorded in June 2016, the movie promises an immersive experience that will allow viewers to connect with the show like never before.

'Hamilton' is set to be released on Disney+ on July 3, 2020.

Plot

'Hamilton' takes inspiration from the book 'Alexander Hamilton' by Ron Chernow. It details the story of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, told in two acts and is one of the most influential musicals of the last twenty years. 

The story of the production has been described as "The true story behind one of America's foremost founding fathers and first US Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the Caribbean who became George Washington's right-hand man during the American Revolutionary War."

'Hamilton' is often described as the show that made Lin-Manuel Miranda's career, catapulting him to becoming a cultural icon. Miranda provided the music, lyrics, and book for the show and stars as Alexander Hamilton. 

Daveed Diggs

The actor, singer, producer, writer and rapper is the vocalist of the experimental hip hop group Clipping. Diggs originated the role of and won a Grammy and Tony for, the Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson in the 2015 musical.

Other members of the show's ensemble cast include Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, Jonathan Groff as King George, Christopher Jackson as George Washington, Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds, Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr, Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison, Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton, and Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton.

Kail is the Tony Award-winning director of 'Hamilton'. He has worked across media, on film, television, and stage productions including 'Grease: Live' and 'The Electric Company'.

He is also a producer on the show, alongside Miranda and Jeffrey Seller, with Sander Jacobs and Jill Furman serving as executive producers. The film adaptation was produced by RadicalMedia and shot at The Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway.

Trailer

Disney released the very first trailer for the movie on June 21. Featuring a medley of some of the show's most popular tunes, the trailer promises an engaging experience of drama, song, and dance.
