'Grey's Anatomy' Season 17 was perhaps one of the most fraught seasons in recent memory, for fans and show creators alike. The fate of the show hung in the balance for the majority of Season 17, with even showrunner Krista Vernoff unsure whether the season finale would also be the long-running medical drama's finale as well. Season 17 also saw the exit of many beloved characters such as Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), Tom Koracick (Greg Germann) and Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti).
But it now seems much to the relief of fans, that Season 18 is confirmed and with contracts renewed for Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr., 'Grey's Anatomy' is just what the doctor ordered in a world that is still adjusting to the new normal.

Air time
A date has yet to be set for Season 18 of 'Grey's Anatomy' to premiere on ABC, however, fans can expect the medical drama to return in September 2021.

'Grey's Anatomy' is expected to return on Thursday nights at 9 pm. in the fall. 'Grey's Anatomy' fans can download the ABC app or watch new episodes the day after they air on ABC.com.
Cast
Ellen Pompeo
Ellen Pompeo has of course become a household name playing Dr Meredith Grey on 'Grey's Anatomy', the show on which she is also a producer. Pompeo's contract negotiations on the show are often closely watched by the media because Pompeo is broadcast television’s highest-earning actress in a primetime drama series. Her role on the long-running series has also earned her a Golden Globe nomination and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Chandra Wilson
Along with Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson is one of the few original cast members who still remains on the show. Chandra Wilson plays the tough but lovable Dr Miranda Bailey on 'Grey' Anatomy', a role which has garnered Wilson four Emmy Nominations for Best Supporting Actress. She has also played the character of Bailey on 'Private Practice' and 'Station 19'. She made her first film appearance in the 1993 film 'Philadelphia'.
Showrunners
The series was created by Shonda Rhimes, who handed off showrunner duties to Krista Vernoff. Pompeo is also an executive producer.
