Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) has woken up, and seems happy. But hey guys, this is 'Grey's Anatomy', and nothing is happy, ever. Fans remember Mark Sloan (Eric Dane), who seemed cheery after his plane crash injuries only to die a few days later. Is this what is happening with Meredith at the moment?

Mark Sloane's sudden and unexpected death is another loss that fans have never recovered from on the show, apart from Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Lexie Grey's (Chyler Leigh). Meredith was lying asleep for days due to Covid-19 and was dreaming about Derek — something fans were quite happy to see. However, she's awake now, and fans don't have a good feeling about this.

"WHAT WE ASKED: DEREK SHEPHERD PULLING A DENNY DUQUETTE. WHAT THEY ARE ABOUT TO GIVE US: MEREDITH GREY PULLING A MARK SLOAN," a fan wrote.

Denny Duquette was Izzy Stevens' (Katherine Heigl) lover in Season 2. He died and returned as a ghost in Season 5. As Izzy had a brain tumor, she could see him, feel him and even have sex with him. "I’m wondering if this is the surge with Meredith just like Mark, he got better before he got worse #GreysAnatomy," another fan wondered.

Others are echoing the same sentiments. Mark had recovered with a "surge" only to die quickly. "Meredith waking up better not be the surge like mark #GreysAnatomy #greys @GreysABC @EllenPompeo," a fan wrote. "Say this is Meredith’s 'surge' before she dies one more time. Compare her to Mark Sloan before he died ONE. MORE. TIME. #GreysAnatomy," another tweeted.

If Meredith dies, is this the final season? In an interview to ET, Chandra Wilson, who plays the role of Miranda Bailey, said, "I know from a creative standpoint there have been many 'This is how the season would end' conversations and then they all end up [not happening] because of a myriad of reasons. Because the network's not ready, the studio's not ready, the fanbase isn't ready, the numbers are too good, all of those things..."

Well, let's hope not. 'Grey's Anatomy' airs on ABC on Thursdays at 9 pm.
