'Grey's Anatomy' Season 17 Preview: Has break up with Teddy Altman pushed Tom Koracick over the edge?
'Grey's Anatomy' is back folks, and this time with a Covid-19 centric season. We're not going to begin exactly where we left off before the pandemic as Season 17 will dive straight into coronavirus without much hesitation. The teasers and promos have been driving fans crazy, as we have seen the doctors of Grey Sloane Memorial rushing around in PPE kits, trying to save lives while battling their own personal struggles.
Several storylines have to be addressed, starting with Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy Altman's (Kim Raver) broken relationship. In the previous season, Owen discovered that Teddy was cheating on him with Tom Koracick (Greg Germann), in a rather painful way. Even though this was Teddy's goodbye to Tom, Owen decides to stand her up at their wedding, leaving Teddy upset and confused.
In the promos for the premiere of 'Grey's Anatomy', Owen confronts Teddy. In another scene, we see Tom Koracick losing control and hitting boxes, for some reason. There could be several reasons for this: the frustration of the pandemic has overwhelmed him, coupled with the fact that he doesn't even have Teddy to turn to, anymore. Tom has never made any bones about his soreness of losing her to Owen, and this might have just gotten to him. Tom has never been a fan's favorite exactly, partly because of his snarky and obnoxious behavior.
The reason why the Teddy-Owen-Tom triangle began because Teddy suddenly had doubts about whether the father of Amelia Shepherd's (Caterina Scorsone) child was Owen. Somehow, she found comfort with Tom, even though she reconciled with Owen later. Worse, she decided to advance her wedding with Owen by a couple of months as well. Unfortunately, Owen heard her having sex with Tom over an accidental voicemail and decided to stand her up at the wedding.
The synopsis for the premiere of Season 17 reads, "The doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial must contend with the COVID-19 pandemic; an unintentionally started fire has first responders from Station 19 bringing patients into the hospital for treatment." As usual, there's a 'Station 19' crossover to look forward to, as well.
'Grey's Anatomy' returns on November 12, ABC at 9 pm.
