'Grey's Anatomy' Season 17 Episode 1: Why would Amelia want to name her baby Mark and not Derek, fans ask
Characters have come and gone on the show and many have left a profound mark, some of them being... Mark Sloane (Eric Dane) and Lexie (Chyler Leigh). Both of them died in the infamous plane crash at the end of Season 8. A little refresher: Mark was Derek Shepherd's (Patrick Dempsey) best friend... and Derek also died in a car crash in Season 11. In the world of 'Grey's Anatomy', you either die or you live long enough to become a boring character that no one cares about. But sorry, coming back to Mark---fans were rather perplexed when Derek's sister Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) considered naming her child Mark. Ever since she had a baby in Season 17, fans have been demanding that she name the baby Derek. The suspense is staggering as both Amelia and Link (Chris Carmack) are still considering what to call their son, but for fans it's only one option--Derek.
Fans are still trying to wonder why she would even think of Mark. Mark redeemed himself in the show, after he slept with Derek's ex-wife Addison Montogomery (Kate Walsh).

There was a bit of baby drama in Season 16, as there was a slight doubt that the father of Amelia's child might not be Link, but Owen. However, a DNA test proved otherwise and Link-Amelia patched up, while Owen and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) suffered a rough patch, which is still continuing till now. It still remains a mystery on what Link and Amelia name their son, but it's surprising to fans that Derek wasn't the first option.
No need to worry folks, she has finally named him Derek.
