'Grey's Anatomy' season 16: Fans miss April Kepner and want to see 'Japril', now that Jackson has broken up with Maggie
Portrayed by actress Sarah Drew, April Kepner is a fan favorite on 'Grey's Anatomy' and many hearts were broken when the medical drama bid farewell to the trauma surgeon at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital two weeks after a near-fatal accident gravely injured her. Drew addressed the news of her departure on social media last year but by the end of her statement she teased a comeback by saying, "I love April, and her story isn’t over yet."
With the medical drama's return to ABC, fans are wondering if they will get to see April back on the show. "I want April back on Grey’s Anatomy. After Cristina and Amelia, she’s my fave," one user wrote on Twitter, and another one tweeted, "Why is social media still using @sarahdrew to get fans' attention to this show, even though the story has nothing to do with her!?! Oh yes, it's because millions love April Kepner and the show is definitely not the same without her!"
However, Drew also quashed rumors of her return in a tweet back in April. "Hey guys. This is just a rumor. Not sure where it started. There is no current plan for me to return," she wrote. Some fans are ready to do anything to bring April back to the show. "I remember not liking her at first and wanting her to be out from the series but as the time passed by I fell inlove with April Kepner and I'm willing to do whatever it takes just to bring her back," one tweet read. Are the showrunners listening?
Moreover, fans are angry that Jackson and April were separated to bring Jackson with Maggie but now they have broken up. "These Grey’s Anatomy m**herf**kers ruined April and Jackson for Maggie just to break them up? I wanna fight," one tweet read. "I'm not sure about this Grey's Anatomy season premiere though. How is Jackson already eying another sista? What's wrong with him and Maggie? I only liked him with April anyway," another one opined. "Now that this Maggie & Jackson thing is finally over can April come back?? #GreysAnatomy," another fan said.
Meanwhile, many fans are irked by all the new plotlines and want old relationships back. "Everything is wrong with Grey's Anatomy. Teddy & Owen? She would have a new house with Koracick and he deserves her more than Owen. Merluca? What. is. that. shit. Maggie and Jackson? Ew. They’re step-siblings dude. where’s Arizona? April? Bailey is my only reason to keep watching it," one user wrote.
Only time will tell if April actually returns to the series in Season 16 or Jackson simply flirts his way with Station 19's Vic! As the second episode releases on October 2 on ABC, there might be more to look forward to the Maggie-Jackson-Vic angle.
