'Grey's Anatomy' season 16: Will Richard and Alex sign up for new jobs at a rival hospital?
One of the biggest cliffhangers from Season 15 of 'Grey's Anatomy' was what would happen to all the surgeons who were fired from the Grey Sloan Hospital. In the wake of Meredith Grey's (Ellen Pompeo) insurance fraud, it seems like Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) have suffered the most.
The summary of the first episode read: "Meredith, Richard, and Alex must deal with the consequences after Bailey fires them from Grey Sloan for insurance fraud." As Season 16 rolled out, it did lift the curtain over their messed up professional situation but a cloud of doubt still looms over their future.
Bitter and woeful, Richard makes a fuss saying, "The person I mentored fired me without a word." To cope up, he applies for a job at Grey Sloan's rival hospital and goes on to convince Alex to follow his footsteps. He is seen in an interview at the Pacific Northwest General and later, visits Alex to ask if he got a call from them as he "put him down as one of his references."
Alex, meanwhile, is quite busy handling his marital woes. "I don't answer the phone if I don't recognize the number," is his response to Richard. The latter gives him a piece of his mind at the end of their discussion. "Worried about your marriage? Give your wife a reason to come back home," Richard tells Alex. On the other hand, Richard's wife Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) is dead set on getting his job at Grey Sloan back as she goes to Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and reprimands her.
What's more, towards the end of the episode, Richard's unemployment majorly affects his relationship with Catherine as she yells at him: "You'll work at Pac North now?" It's not like Bailey is too happy with what she did as she confesses to Teddy, "I fired all of my favorite people, and my least favorite person has power over me. And my righteous anger is exhausting."
Even with the guilt and remorse building up inside her, it seems she won't give a chance to the two to come back anytime soon. Here's a big clue. The summary of the second episode reads: "Plus, Richard and Alex uneasily start anew." So, will the two join a rival hospital now and what will that mean for Grey Sloan as all its major surgeons are no longer there anymore? As the second episode releases on October 2 on ABC, many questions about their career need to be answered.
