Actor Greg Ellis, who worked with Johnny Depp in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie series, has shown relentless support for his former castmate amid the defamation trial unfolding in a Virginia courtroom. Dissing Amber Heard, Ellis said the actress was “universally detested in the industry”.

Depp and Heard have locked horns in the Fairfax County court after the ‘Edward Scissorhands’ star accused his former wife of defaming him by writing a 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post. In the essay, the ‘Aquaman’ actress had identified herself as a domestic violence survivor while writing, “Like many women, I had been harassed and sexually assaulted by the time I was of college age. But I kept quiet — I did not expect filing complaints to bring justice. And I didn’t see myself as a victim. Then two years ago, I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out.”

For how long did Johnny Depp and Ellen Barkin REALLY date? Timeline confusion sparks Twitter war

Though Heard did not name Depp in the op-ed, his team of lawyers believed it defamed him through insinuation and sued her for $50 million. The 36-year-old star countersued, asking for $100 million in return. The trial that began on April 11 will now decide the fate of the two actors as both of them have presented themselves as the 'innocent' victim and the other as the 'violent' abuser in their relationship. Since the start of the case, many high profile names have also chosen to pick sides and Ellis is one of them.

Recently, taking a dig at Heard, the 54-year-old British author tweeted: “Is it #TimesUp for #MeToo? Is it time for #MenToo? A female abuser is a criminal, not an “imperfect victim.” A woman who makes a false allegation is a criminal, not an “imperfect victim.” Demonizing all men as bad was never the solution ~ it was always the problem. #MenToo.”

Ellis also shared a tweet that read, “Johnny Depp has not been charged or tried in a court of law. He is beloved in the industry. Amber Heard knew exactly what she was doing when she set out on legal maneuvers 6 years ago. She is universally detested in the industry. She is on trial ~ a jury will decide her fate.” In an April 12 tweet, he shared an audio clip of a phone call between the former spouses and wrote: “‘Tell the world Johnny, see what a Judge or Jury thinks. Tell the world, I Johnny Depp, a man, am a victim too of domestic violence.  See how many people believe or side with you.’ Hollywood knows JD is certified good people & Amber Heard was digging for gold. #AbuseHasNoGender.”

His other latest social media shares also ridiculed ‘The Rum Diary’ actress and expressed solidarity with Depp with tweets, like “Amber Heard’s greatest achievement may be that she’s helped ignite a #MenToo Dialogue, not a #MeToo Monologue” ; “It you support Amber Heard, then you haven’t done your due diligence… She lied. Multiple times. She’s admitted to perpetrating acts of domestic violence. Multiple times. She perjured herself on the stand @ the High Court in the UK. She kept the money earmarked for charity” ; and “Tall, Resolute & Immovable for 6 years #IStandWithJohnnyDepp Plant your flag to show support for the man 🏴‍☠️.”

Ellis, who also worked in ‘Titanic’, has a YouTube channel called ‘The Respondent’. In his videos, he talks about the defamation trial brought against Heard by Depp. One of his recent videos on the platform was titled, ‘Amber Heard - Why Her Testimony Is So Dangerous’ that got more than 12k views and over 200 comments. Even after Depp lost his UK libel case, Ellis did not leave his side and at the time commented, “[There’s] this reputation savaging that’s going on, this victimhood culture where victimhood is the new social currency and its economy is booming, and it’s been inflated.”
