Golden Globes 2020: Taron Egerton wins Best Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy for 'Rocketman'
It didn't come as a surprise when Taron Egerton walked up to the stage to collect his Golden Globe to thunderous applause. The 30-year-old won the Best Actor in a Motion Picture— Musical or Comedy for his role as the legendary Sir Elton John in 'Rocketman'.
He vaulted over heavyweight actors in Daniel Craig ('Knives Out'), Roman Griffin Davis ('Jojo Rabbit'), Leonardo DiCaprio ('Once Upon a Time in Hollywood') and Eddie Murphy ('Dolemite Is My Name').
"So honored to be nominated alongside some greats," he said. " This role has changed my life and has given me the best experience of my life. I'll be proud of this movie for the rest of my life. Thank you for Elton John for such great music."
'Rocketman' premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on 16 May 2019, and opened to positive reviews when it hit the big screens.
Directed by Dexter Fletcher and written by Lee Hall, the biographical drama stars Taron Egerton as John, Jamie Bell as Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden as John Reid and Bryce Dallas Howard as Sheila Eileen.
