Season 1 of ‘Godfather of Harlem’ was undoubtedly one of the most exciting crime dramas in recent times. The season was filled with badass characters and captivating sequences. Fans must be hoping for the same level of entertainment from the upcoming Season 2, which exclusively airs on Epix on Sunday, April 18.

The finale of Season 1 left some unanswered plot points and the show could not get renewed for a second season due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. However, the show is set to enthrall the viewers once again and will follow the journey of Ellsworth “Bumpy” Johnson (Forest Whitaker) and his adventures in the crime world. Before talking about the upcoming season, let’s take a quick recap of how things turned out in the finale episode of Season 1.

‘Godfather of Harlem’ Season 1 Finale recap

The finale's plot heavily centered around President JF Kennedy's assassination and the repercussions it had on the people of Harlem. Adam Clayton Powell Jr. (Giancarlo Esposito) mourns the death of his friend while Bumpy sends off Mayme (Ilfenesh Hadera) and Margaret off to a safe place. Malcolm X (Nigel Thatch) uses the opportunity to make his feelings clear when Elijah Muhammed asks him to take his place on the Lester Wolff Show.

The episode also featured the controversial phrase “Chickens come home to roost.” Malcolm X famously used the phrase for the assassination of  Kennedy in December 1963.

On the other hand, Bumpy is attacked by an Italian mobster in his penthouse. However, Elise (Antoinette Crowe-Legacy) saves him despite being injured herself. The season ends with Bumpy threatening Chin that he is coming for him while Malcolm quits the Nation of Islam following the highly controversial quote.

‘Godfather of Harlem’ Season 2 Spoilers

The second season will pick up from events in February 1964, three months after the happenings of Season 1. Bumpy has now become the new target of several crime families and still lives in Harlem. But he knows how dangerous it can be for him to stay at one place, so he is moving around like a fugitive and has grown a beard to avoid assassination.

To keep his family safe from the aftermath of Season 1, Bumpy has sent his wife (Ilfenesh Hadera) and young granddaughter to South Carolina until it’s safe to return. On the other hand, the relationship between Bumpy and his daughter Elise has become stronger. 

In the last season, Bumpy was fighting for attaining powers and now he will be doing everything to eliminate them. The trailer for Season 2 also reveals that Bumpy will do anything and everything to take control of “French Connection”, the only channel that runs from Marseilles to New York Harbor.

The season will be really challenging because Bumpy will be facing a lot of threats from various mob families, including the Italian mob. Will Bumpy be able to save himself and his family from the wrath of these mobsters? It will be interesting to see how the events unfolded in Season 1 create chaos in his life and in Harlem.  

Let’s hope for another superb season of ‘Godfather of Harlem’.
