LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After much anticipation, 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' is finally hitting theaters on Friday, May 24, 2024, following a delay.

This marks the fifth installment in the 'Mad Max' series, with the announcement of 'Furiosa' dating back to 2020.

The film serves as a prequel to the action-packed 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' delving into the backstory of Furiosa, a character introduced in the 2015 film and portrayed by Charlize Theron.

However, in this installment, a younger version of Furiosa will grace the screen, portrayed by Anya Taylor-Joy from 'Queen's Gambit,' offering viewers a fresh perspective.  Joining Taylor-Joy are Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, and Nathan Jones in key roles.

In 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' the main villain is Immortan Joe (who is also set to show up in 'Furiosa'), a ruthless dictator who controls water resources and lives extravagantly while his people endure hardship.

He keeps five women captive as his Wives in the Citadel, subjecting them to his tyrannical rule.

Despite his power, he underestimates Imperator Furiosa, who helps the Wives escape. Immortan Joe's cruelty towards them is evident, regardless of his possible personal inclinations.  Ultimately, the Wives seize their freedom, turning the tables on their oppressor.

Here's a rundown of Immortan Joe's five wives and their significance in 'Mad Max: Fury Road' to get you ready for 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga'. T

hese women played crucial roles in the story, shaping events and challenging the status quo.

In 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' Cheedo (Courtney Eaton), Immortan's youngest wife, is portrayed as more delicate and hesitant due to her age and limited experience.

She feels somewhat comfortable in the Citadel and urges the others to return to Immortan for safety, perhaps because she hasn't yet faced his abuse directly.

She believes life would be easier back there, away from the dangers of the Wasteland and the marauders. Cheedo trusts Furiosa but fears the consequences if caught by Immortan.

However, as they journey on the Fury Road, her attachment to Immortan gradually wanes. Her brave act of distracting Rictus Erectus and aiding Furiosa in the climax is pivotal to the story.

Capable

In 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' Capable (Riley Keough) initially resents Imperator Furiosa, holding her responsible for their dire situation under Immortan Joe's rule.

Furiosa, however, reminds Capable of the privileges they enjoy compared to others within the Citadel. As they spend more time together, their bond deepens as they discover common ground.

Capable proves herself in combat, notably trying to stop Nux from aiding Max against Furiosa. She displays emotional maturity in her interactions with Nux, recognizing his potential for change.

Despite the risks, she protects Nux, believing in his redemption. Capable's trust and support contribute to their eventual victory, as she insists on Nux's significance to their cause, a decision that proves fruitful in the end.

The Dag

In 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' The Dag (Abbey Lee) fearlessly voices her opinions, unafraid of the potential consequences

She boldly imitates Immortan Joe and performs a comedic act, highlighting his disturbing preferences, despite the risks.

She vehemently objects when Immortan makes inappropriate remarks to Cheedo, displaying her defiance. Her actions lead to punishment, indirectly triggering Immortan's imposition of chastity belts on the wives.

The Dag's intelligence and perceptiveness rival Furiosa's, as she detects the approaching war party before anyone else.

Her most significant role, however, is taking on the responsibility of The Keeper of the Seeds after the previous one's death.

With Furiosa's leadership, The Dag's efforts promise a future of flourishing gardens and orchards within the the Citadel after Immortan's downfall.

Toast the Knowing

In 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' Toast (Zoë Kravitz) stands out among the wives because of her prior experience navigating the Wasteland before being captured by Immortan's War Boys.

She possesses skills in handling weapons and operating vehicles, indicating her familiarity with the outside world.

Toast's proficiency with firearms is evident, as she manages the arsenal on the War Rig. Despite being taken to the Gigahorse later on, Toast demonstrates resilience when held at gunpoint.

She intervenes to protect Furiosa from being shot, allowing Furiosa to retaliate against Immortan Joe. Toast's actions symbolize the collective anger of the wives towards their oppressors, culminating in their defiance against him.

Angharad

In 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' Angharad (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) is Immortan's favored wife, though the reason remains undisclosed. Enduring his advances more than the others, she harbors profound resentment towards him as a result.

Desperate to avoid bearing his child, she attempts self-abortion, only to be stopped by Furiosa. After some time, she decides to keep the baby but adamantly refuses to let it become a warlord.

Angharad is the first to consider escape from the Citadel, inspired by Furiosa's courage. Despite her epithet suggesting beauty, her true bravery shines when she shields Furiosa from harm.

Her accidental death deeply affects both her companions and Immortan Joe, though for vastly different reasons.
