'Furiosa': From Max Rockatansky to Toecutter, all the 'Mad Max' characters ranked
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' will hit the theaters on May 23, 2024, and fans of George Miller's 'Mad Max' universe can't wait for the movie's release. The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy in the role of Furiosa, as it traces the origins of the character Furiosa before she meets Max.
'Mad Max' movies are about a tough drifter named Max who lives in a post-apocalyptic world where he fights off his enemies along with fellow remaining humans. Mel Gibson and Tom Hardy have played the character of Max so far but in 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga', Jacob Tomuri plays the character.
'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' is about a young Furiosa as she gets snatched from her home and finds herself in a war between biker horde warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth) and Immortan Joe (Lachy Hulme).
The film features a few recurring characters from the 'Mad Max' universe but also introduces some new characters. Here is a ranking of some of the best 'Mad Max' characters.
1. Max Rockatansky
There is no 'Mad Max' without Max Rockatansky and that is why he tops our list of favorite characters. He is the quintessential tough guy, has great combative skills, is vulnerable to pain, and shows his moments of compassion and emotion.
Max is a warrior in the true sense of the word and a survivor in a post-apocalyptic world otherwise full of sanity. The character was played by Mel Gibson in the first three films and then by Tom Hardy in the 2015 blockbuster 'Mad Max: Fury Road'.
In 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga', the character is played by Jacob Tomuri who was Tom Hardy's stuntman in the previous movie.
2. Imperator Furiosa
The character of Imperator Furiosa made her debut in 'Mad Max: Fury Road' where Charlize Theron performed it. In 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga', the character is performed by Anya Taylor-Joy.
Furiosa starts as an officer in Immortan Joe's army but her righteous qualities and morals make her rebel against the power to free the breeders from Joe's clutches.
She is fierce, brave, and battle-hardened, so she is our second favorite character after Max, who we love just a little more. Maybe that can change after 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga'.
3. Immortan Joe
What's a good hero without a good villain? Immortan Joe is perhaps the biggest and most ominous of villains as the God-like ruler of the wasteland.
From his physical appearance of white flowing hair and a deadly breathing mask, he is the biggest warlord, and going up against him means trouble for anyone who dares to do so.
Hugh Keays-Byrne played the character in 'Mad Max: Fury Road' and it will be played by Lachy Hulme in 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga'.
4. Dementus
Sometimes all it takes is a glimpse to fall in love with a character. The trailer of 'Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga' is all it took for us to drool over Dementus and Chris Hemsworth.
The character is the leader of a biker horde who takes Furiosa after she is snatched from her home. Dementus is a warlord in his own right and will go up against Immortan Joe in 'Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga'.
The character, at first glance, seems to be a tough guy with a sense of humor. We hope this film isn't the last we see of Dementus.
5. Rictus Erectus
Played by actor Nathan Jones in both 'Mad Max: Fury Road' and 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga', the character of Rictus Erectus is a powerhouse with limited intellectual abilities.
His actions towards the women in 'Mad Max: Fury Road' are despicable even by Immortan Joe's standards. He is a physical specimen and stands over 7 ft tall.
6. Toecutter
Before he played the character of Immortan Joe in 'Mad Max: Fury Road', Hugh Keays-Byrne played the main antagonist in the first 'Mad Max' film called Toecutter.
Toecutter is an extremely dangerous villain as he has both the brawn and the brains to topple any opponent. He was violent and cerebral and proved to be a difficult obstacle to overcome for Max in the first film.
