'Fuller House' cancelled: Here's why the hit show was axed after five seasons
After five seasons on Netflix, 'Fuller House' comes to an end. The ABC show saw the continuation of the story about the lives of the Tanner family in San Francisco. Though it was assumed that the show had good viewership fans were upset that there would be no sixth season.
In an article by Business Insider it was calculated that viewership had fallen by 52% from season 1 to season 2 in their first month of release. The drop was much smaller between seasons 3 and 4, where the drop was only 10%. According to Symphony, a service that analyzes data, problems were identified dating back to the show's second season. "The season-two premiere drew a 3.32 rating, down 67% from the season-two premiere’s 10.16 rating,” according to a report in Variety.
Initially, the show was a hit for Netflix. However, the veneer of nostalgia wore off as the season progressed and the focus turned away from Bob Saget and John Stamos's characters. There were new additions and the confused storylines also led to a fall in viewership.
Most of the show's cast took to Twitter and Instagram after the announcement of the final season. "“Our farewell season of @fullerhouse is a go and it’s all because of you guys. Thank you so so much! Without such amazingly loyal fans, we wouldn’t have been able to do this! And I promise, we saved the best for last,” wrote Jodie Sweetin, the actress who plays Stephanie in the show.
Andrea Barber shared a photo on Instagram and captioned it, "Our final bow!"
'Fuller House' did not feature Michelle, played by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Michelle is the youngest Tanner and had been the heartbeat of the first show, 'Full House'. Kimmy Gibbler, played by Andrea Barber, returned for 'Fuller House' along with Steve, DJ's boyfriend, played by Scott Weinger.
'Fuller House' is currently streaming on Netflix.
