If a Marvel film were to be made in Germany, it would look a lot like the upcoming 'Freaks - You're One of Us'. When a young, timid working mother discovers that she has superpowers and is one of a handful of those with varied powers, she uncovers a surprising conspiracy. How then will she use her powers for the best?

Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming German supernatural social drama.

'Freaks - You're One of Us' arrives on Netflix on September 2, 2020.

Plot

According to the logline of the movie, "We live in a world where the use of prescription drugs has increased dramatically. For every behavioral disorder, there’s a pill these days, so it seems. What if these drugs are meant to do more than regulate performance by suppressing anger and anxiety? What if they are capable of much - much - more than that? When a young, suburban mother stops taking her medication she discovers that she has strange, supernatural powers. But being a real-life superheroine isn’t easy. Especially when you have to look after a family."

'Freaks - You're One of Us' stars Cornelia Gröschel, Tim Oliver Schultz, Wotan Wilke Möhring, Gisa Flake, Nina Kunzendorf, Ralph Herforth, Frederic Linkemann, Finnlay Berger and Thelma Buabeng.

Trailers

According to the trailer, Cornelia Gröschel's Wendy is a young working-class mom, who lives a very unsuspecting life. However, she suddenly realizes that she is not ordinary. As it turns out, she can send people flying in the air, pick up those at least twice her size by their collar, and what not. Sometimes, these powers scare her just as much they scare those around her.

As it turns out, years of medication have suppressed her latent supernatural powers. She meets a stranger, Marek (Wotan Wilke Möhring), with the same background, and finds out that her co-worker, Elmar (Tim Oliver Schultz), is also similarly gifted. In doing so, she also "uncovers an unsavory, vast conspiracy." So now the question is: what will she do with her new powers?
