Foreign shows and movies seem to have carved a special place on Netflix and are gaining immense popularity among the global audience. While there has always been a huge fan following of Japanese content, the upcoming Netflix original will add to the streaming giant’s latest line up of Asian shows.

Release Date

The all-new first season of the series is scheduled to drop on Netflix on April 30, 2020.

Plot

The show is based on a series of real-life murders that took place in Japan in 1990s. The plot follows a charismatic conman who ventures into the lives of two young women who are already emotionally scarred and takes them down a dark road of depravity and misery.

Here's what the official synopsis of the series on Netflix says: "Nothing is as it seems when a charismatic conman and an aspiring film crew delve into the lives of two emotionally scarred women."

The lead cast of ‘Forest of Love: Deep Cut’ features Kippei Shiina, Shinnosuke Mitsushima and Kyoko Hinami.

Kippei Shiina is a versatile actor known for portraying a wide range of characters. He is recognized for his work in ‘A Night in Nude’, for which he won the Best New Actor Award at the 9th Takasaki Film Festival. He also appeared in ‘Shinjuku Triad Society’, ‘Spellbound’, ‘Last Chance’ etc.

Shinnosuke Mitsushima is an actor known for Erased (2016), Blade of the Immortal (2017) and Napping Princess (2017).

The show also staRS Kyoko Hinami, known for Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger (2012), Princess Sakura: Forbidden Pleasures (2013) and Zebra (2016).

Showrunner

The thriller is directed by Sion Sono and produced by Hiroshi Muto. Sion Sono comes with a background of popular works such as the outlandish trilogy of ‘Cold Fish’ and ‘Guilty of Romance’, ‘Love Exposure’, which helped him reach a wider international audience and establish himself as a cult director.
