Dinner at the family table turns into yet another drama

A wholesome dinner turns into something dramatic when Mose and Delly get invited to a family dinner hosted by Mike's sister Patsy.

How did it happen? Well, it seems genius does run too much in the Valentine family.  After Mose found out that Delly was in fact alive, he asked her to invite Mike for lunch. Sensing danger, Mike agrees but calls them to his father's diner by the beach. Their plan to knock up Mose fails when Mike's brother-in-law comes out of nowhere to see if Mike is available for dinner tonight and surely enough, he points to Mike's father Sonny, who Mose thought to be a random restaurant owner, and calls him dad. Things looked pretty interesting to Mose so he didn't miss out a chance to invite himself and get close to Mike's family. The tension already had grown with the two new invites and so when everyone started to engage in pretentious talks over dinner, Patsy lashed out and blurted all her secrets, including killing a patient at the hospital to save Mike.

There's something about female rage in cinema

Yes, the dinner quite expectedly turned into something rather dramatic but how the episode ended highlighted a key element that has become quite crucial in today's cinema - the female rage.

Dramas always use female rage to ignite a strange emotion in its viewers. All female characters in such dramas are seen to put up with bullsh*t throughout the film, and there comes a point where the character just can't take it anymore, and that's what happened with Patsy (Otmara Marrero) too. Since childhood, she knew that her mother didn't die of cancer but instead committed suicide, something that Mike and Sonny had been hiding from her. She insisted that she didn't talk about it because, like always, the men in her family didn't have the emotional maturity to talk about such a sensitive issue. Patsy's outburst also came at a great point in 'Florida Man' since things had just started to feel quite overwhelming and an outburst helped the viewers to feel human.

Marrero does a great job at exhibiting the character's frustration that stems from living with two emotionally challenged men and a daughter who is going through her dramatic teenage years. All modern female characters have a rage that is always on the edge, and a great storyline, just like this one, can help bring this rage out in a way that will, for all the right reasons, leave the audiences shaken up.
