First look photos reveal Dua Lipa to star as mermaid in 'Barbie' movie
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie', a take on the 1959's iconic fashion doll is a first of its kind as, despite numerous animated films, Barbie has never been depicted in a live-action movie featuring her iconic pink car and stylish outfits. While discussions about turning the Mattel toy into a live-action film had been ongoing for over a decade, it was only after Greta Gerwig signed on as director that the project gained momentum. With Margot Robbie cast in the lead role, anticipation for the upcoming release of 'Barbie' in 2023 is high, as we now know that Dua Lipa will be featured in the film as a mermaid, as per the film's social media handles.
Warner Bros reveals that the live-action 'Barbie' film, featuring Margot Robbie in the lead role, will hit theaters on July 21, 2023. Although the project was first reported in 2018, production was delayed due to the pandemic and only began after the completion of Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig's work on White Noise. In addition to her starring role, Robbie is also one of the film's producers.

Dua Lipa as a mermaid in 'Barbie'
Rumors have circulated for some time that Dua Lipa may have a role in Greta Gerwig's upcoming directorial project, which stars Margot Robbie as the titular character. Initially, it was thought that she will be contributing to the music for 'Barbie' but soon speculations emerged about Lipa's involvement after noticing that the film's official Instagram page, which recently revealed new character posters, was following the pop star, along with only a few other individuals known to be associated with the production.
The speculations were cleared after the official Instagram handle for 'Barbie' released posters for each of its cast and specifying which role they will be seen in. Dua Lipa's poster says, "This Barbie is a mermaid" clearing any doubts about her role in the film. She is seen in the familiar mermaid outfit with everything being blue.
