This is indeed a great time for female standup comedians who bring refreshing content to the table and garner huge fan-following. Joining the bandwagon is Canadian standup artist Mae Martin, who is all set to star in a comedy series, which will explore her personal life and relationships therein. The dark but humorous story of two young women is a journey of love, addiction and sexuality.

Release date

The six-episode first season of ‘Feel Good’ will release on Netflix on March 19, 2020.

Plot

‘Feel Good’ is a semi-autobiographical account of Mae Martin’s life, which follows her struggles and relationships. Mae is a recovering addict and a standup artist working in a local club. In the course of her work and life, she gets into an intense relationship with another woman, George, who was heterosexual until she met Mae. The six-part series addresses Mae’s challenges of the newfound romance, her relationship with her parents, friends, and the support group, while she is simultaneously trying to make a break in her comedy career.

Cast

‘Feel Good’ is created by Mae Martin, who also stars as the lead character. The series also casts Charlotte Ritchie, Lisa Kudrow, Adrian Lukis and Shopie Thompson in significant roles.

Mae is an award-winning Canadian standup artist, and an author, currently settled in the UK. Her recent show ‘Dope’ was nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award. She is also a co-host on BBC Radio 4 podcast ‘Grown-up Land’ and her second BBC Radio 4 series ‘Mae Martin's Guide To’, has contributed to the ‘The Baroness Von Sketch Show’, and performed on shows like ‘Russell Howard Hour’, ‘Comedy Central’ at the Comedy Store, ‘Uncle’, etc.

Charlotte Ritchie is a television actor and professional singer, who is known for her appearance in sitcoms like ‘Call the Midwife’, ‘Siblings’, ‘Ghosts’ etc.

Lisa Kudrow needs No introduction. Her iconic role of Phoebe Buffay in the popular sitcom ‘Friends’ catapulted her career and acting repertoire. Kudrow has ever since appeared in many movies and television series. Some of her notable recent works are from ‘Scandal’, ‘Grace and Frankie’ and ‘The Comeback’.

The series is directed by Ally Pankiw. She is a Canadian writer/director, who started with directing and producing music videos for popular artists such as Ariana Grande, Janelle Monae, The Arkells, The Vamps and Lil Jon. She has also directed commercials and digital content for brands like Amazon, Pepsi, Benefit, Nylon, Nasty Gal and Chanel. She has also served as an editor for two seasons of ‘Schitt's Creek’.
