'Fear The Walking Dead' Season 6 Episode 5: Dwight leaves a clue for Sherry, will she find her way back to him?

Dwight and Sherry reunite, only to be separated in the latest episode

'The Walking Dead' franchise isn't known for having the happiest of couples. They either live long enough to separate indefinitely or one of them gets their heads bashed in by a baseball bat or they're just eaten by Walkers...or maybe get their heads stuck on a plaque. Dwight (Austin Amelio) and Sherry belong to the first category. Their relationship in TWD has been tumultuous, to say the least, and they've witnessed terrible traumas together, mostly due to Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), in his good old Lucille days. In the latest episode of 'Fear The Walking Dead', the spinoff franchise, they finally reunite after what seems like an eternity, but separate as the ghosts of their past continue to haunt them, or rather Sherry, specifically.

In 'Episode 5', the two run into Morgan (Lennie James), and the team decides to put an end to Virginia's (Colby Minfie) terror reign for good. As predicted, Dwight and Morgan are at loggerheads as they have different methods on how to oust Virginia. This leads to internal strife, as Dwight and Sherry decided to take matters into their own hands and take Virginia head-on, whereas  Morgan would rather wait for his concrete plan. Sherry changes her mind about Dwight and leaves him out of the plan, as she fears that he will become 'the person he hated most'. During the climax of the episode, Dwight talks Sherry out of it, and she breaks down. Later, at the end of the episode, she tells him that their time with Negan in 'The Walking Dead' is continuing to haunt her, as she still feels immensely guilty. Sherry had to marry Negan so that Dwight's life could be spared. Yet, Negan feels the need to take a step further and burns Dwight's face in front of her. Sherry is unable to come to terms with that, as well as for her wrongdoings during her time at TWD. And so, in FWD, she decides to part ways with Dwight.

The roles have reversed, as the end of the episode shows, that Dwight is now leaving clues for Sherry, in the hope that she would find her way back to him, as Althea says. Perhaps, she will return in the final takedown of Virginia, after battling all her own demons, and maybe we can have a longer Dwight-Sherry reunion, something fans have been eagerly waiting for. The two characters have undergone a remarkable amount of changes since the beginning of their storylines in TWD, and all the redemption that they went through. Or... maybe, sticking true to TWD tradition one of them dies in battle. Sigh. 

'Fear The Walking Dead' airs on AMC, Sundays at 9 pm.
