'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald': Fans try to relive the 'Harry Potter' magic as Johnny Depp's dark wizard fails to charm

Harry Potter fans worldwide finally have a reason to rejoice! The latest film in the franchise, keeping the series' flame alive as - 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald' - just released a couple of hours ago and from what it looks - the impatience with which fans had anticipated the second installment in the Fantastic Beasts trilogy was every bit worth the wait. But at the same time, the reaction to the movie has been quite mixed - with fans going both batsh*t crazy about just witnessing the magic of the Wizarding World once again, and others not so enthusiastic or keen about the film, after witnessing it in all its glory.

From fans' reactions on social media, two things have been established: Fantastic Beasts 2 does tie a couple of frustratingly loose ends that author J.K. Rowling had left fans with after the first film, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,' ended and the fact that Gellert Grindelwald (yes, the titular character) is not worth the hype that was created revolving him, prior to the film's release.

The official synopsis of the film describes it as: "In an effort to thwart Grindelwald's plans of raising pure-blood wizards to rule over all non-magical beings, Albus Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world."

As is clear from the synopsis, Grindelwald - the single darkest wizard of all times before Lord Voldemort - should have had a certain quotient of panache about him. Especially after the suave with which Voldemort went about his murders and devious, sinister plans, Grindelwald should have had more of a grandeur to himself. After all, he was the man Albus Dumbledore allegedly fell in love with! But Johnny Depp's Grindelwald fails to create that ambiance. For a dark wizard, his only striking feature is a lone, colorless iris. Granted, the film is about Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and his adventures following Dumbledore's (Jude Law), but fans believe more could have been explored about the whole Grindelwald vibe.

However, it is primarily the fact that Fantastic Beasts 2 arrives two years after the first installment, that is expected to work to the film's advantage. From the amount of social media buzz the film has been able to garner ever since its release date was announced, it's quite clear that fans are just ecstatic about viewing any remotest bit of the magic from the Wizarding World. Let's add to that the seven, dreary years that it has been since the release of the last Harry Potter movie - 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.' Luckily, both the factors have just amped up the anticipation - which explains the whopping $7 milion+ that the movie earned on its opening night itself!
