iKON Chanwoo and GFriend Sowon play leads in ‘Chilling Roommate’, fans 'can't wait'

This is iKON Chanwoo and GFriend Sowon's first lead roles in an acting project ever

It looks like iKON’s Chanwoo and GFriend’s leader Sowon have been cast opposite each other as the main leads in ‘Chilling Roommate’. And there’s a whole lot in store for excited fans. We will be able to see the main couple’s chemistry in a film format, as well as a K-drama format. It has been revealed that the production’s involved -- CGV and Contact Media have come up with a new project titled Cine-rama Project.

The Cine-rama Project will combine the format of cinema and drama and portraying one story in both versions. Those who are interested in the big screen experience can watch iKON’s Chanwoo and GFriend Sowon’s ‘Chilling Roommate’ as a film in a cinema theatre. Those who prefer dramas can watch the K-drama version of it on YouTube and other online streaming platforms that have partnered up with the project.

Sowon and Chanwoo in 'Chilling Roommate'

It should be noted that this Sowon’s first acting credit. After GFriend disbanded, the idol decided to become an actress and has changed her stage name to her real name Kim Sojung. She has also signed with the entertainment company IOK Company whose executive director is none other than former iKON leader B.I aka Kim Hanbin. Sowon aka Sojung explained that she had always wanted to try out acting but wanted to first focus on her music career.

As for Chanwoo, he had a couple of guest appearances and supporting roles in films and dramas in the early 2010s before he debuted in iKON. He has always wanted to explore his acting career further but could not in the past. Frustrated iKON members like Junhoe, in fact, shared a few weeks back that the group wanted more individual gigs and branch out in other fields. 

Upset fans had also been trending this in hopes that their label YG Entertainment would take notice and remedy this. Well, it looks like there has been some progress. ‘Chilling Roommate’ is Chanwoo’s first main role. And fans are happy that he was able to bag a drama and a film in the same project. It is a supernatural rom-com as Sowon plays Jung Se-ri, a woman who can see ghosts while Chanwoo is Song Ji-chan who becomes a ghost. The project will premiere earlier next year.
