LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dwayne Johnson is joining the 'Fast & Furious' franchise. On Thursday, June 1, he took to Twitter to share the news about his return through the new upcoming film after his cameo in 'Fast X' which is in theaters now.

The untitled film in which Johnson plays the role of a rogue lawman named Luke Hobbs will not be a standalone movie or a 'Hobbs & Shaw' spinoff but it will be a continuation of events in 'Fast X' that sets its spotlight on Hobbs leading to events of 'Fast X: Part II', according to Entertainment Tonight.

'I've built my career on an 'Audience First' mentality'

Talking about the years-long feud between him and Vin Diesel, Johnson said, "Last summer Vin and I put all the past behind us. We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve - and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love."

"I've built my career on an 'Audience First' mentality and that will always serve as my North Star," the former wrestler added. In 2021, the 'Black Adam' actor said that there was "no chance" of him reuniting for a 'Fast & Furious' film following the social media feud between him and Diesel.

However, the post-credits scene in Fast X shows Jason Momoa's villain calling the lawman Hobbs that he is his next target which suggests the return of Johnson.

In May 2023, while talking to the media outlet in Los Angeles at the block party for Charlize Theron's Africa Outreach Project, Diesel commented on Johnson's cameo role. "We have such a great cast. We lead with love. We try to create an environment where people can do their best work," Diesel said.

"That's all actors really want, is to feel as though they're supported to create unique characters. Characters that last forever, and you see that in this franchise," he added.

'Grown men can work out their differences for the fans'

Excited about the upcoming film, fans on social media expressed their happiness over Johnson's announcement of his big return to the franchise.  One Twitter user wrote, "Glad to have you back! Pumped to see where the new movie goes," while another wrote, "This is super great news I am so so happy DJ is back because I have to be honest here I'm a big fan and with you in it I stopped watching it great news DJ."

"I wish someone was filming my reaction in the theater! What an epic announcement to kick off the start of June! Can’t wait and congrats DJ Cheers to the return of Hobbs in F&F," a fan tweeted, and another wrote, "Thank you, thank you very much. Fast and Furious could not end without the family reunited and you are part of it. And everyone wants to see Luke Hobbs sweep everything away."

"Finally! The Rock has come back to the family. Super excited to have you back in the Fast franchise. You're as much a part of that family as the rest of them and the ending wouldn't be the same without you. Looking forward to Fast 11 and possibly 12," a fan remarked while someone wrote, "Let's go! I want to see Hobbs and Shaw part 2 also! Been waiting for that...Glad to see to grown men can work out their differences for the fans!"
