LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix is known for making shocking announcements. The streamer decided to cancel 'Freeridge' after season one. The half-hour show was a spinoff of the YA comedy series 'On My Block.' It shed light on a group of four teenagers, Monse, Ruby, Cesar, and Jamal, who try to navigate their life and friendship during high school. The original ended in September 2021, and the streaming giant went ahead with a spin-off.

The story of 'Freeridge' is a coming-of-age comedy following sibling rivals Gloria and Ines and their friends Demi and Cameron, who have unleashed a curse bringing dark misfortune into their lives. The series hailed from 'On My Block' co-creators Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzalez, and Jeremy Haft along with co-producer Jamie Uyeshiro. Now it seems like fans are relieved after the announcement of the cancelation.

'Freeridge' Ending Explained: A million dollar ending with the perfect cliffhanger

'Freeridge' Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger

The first season ended on a cliffhanger, allowing room for a potential second season. The gang learned that Mariluna, Abuelita's long-lost sister, was the source of their curse. Mariluna set a spending goal for the group and gave them a deadline, offering them additional funds if they met it. But, things became worse when Mariluna was shot by Santos gang members who thought she was Marisol. Unfortunately, the show got canceled, and Netflix hasn't given the reason. The decision was probably influenced by the show's poor metrics, which included low completion rates and hefty costs. Fans were elated by the announcement, and it indicated the show was becoming terrible.

A fan wrote, "Nobody was watching anyways." A person praised Netflix by saying, "Netflix is finally making some good decisions."
